Test viewer with fixed OpenGL (may help with ATI issues)

I've just uploaded a test build (otherwise identical with Cool Viewer 1.22.11.0 R3) that incorporates the fixes of [#VWR-12540] RenderDeferred / obsolete OpenGL libs in RC / FPS drops down to 2fps - Second Life Issues. It includes updated OpenGL headers and detection routines. Hopefully this helps the ATI users out there that are suffering from bad performance of their graphic cards with SL. Please give it a try, perhaps it works for you. I can not test it myself as I returned my 4870 for a GTX260 due to the problems with SL.

So far mixed results, 100% increase in FPS reported for ATi but Antialiasing doesn't seem to work anymore. No impact for Nvidia cards. All working there.

I need more people testing .
Thanks!

Dynamic benchmarking done. For both ATI and Nvidia cards there is a measurable performance gain of 35% compared to the official viewer.

Test results (60s train ride in Koh Kut, measured with fraps):
R3: Standard CoolViewer, R3c OpenGL fix, SSE2, R3e, OpenGL fix, SSE, Shadow just for comparison)
ATi (HD4830, 1400x900, Thanks Trashe Vyper!)
R3) 1785 Frames, 19 min, 44 max, 29.750 Avg
R3c) 2178 Frames, 25 min, 46 max, 36.300 Avg
R3e) 2224 Frames, 21 min, 54 max, 37.067 Avg

SL 1.22) 1554 Frames, 12 min, 39 max, 25.900 Avg

Nvidia (GTX260, 1680x1050):
R3) 3924 Frames, 42 min, 86 max, 65.400 Avg
R3c) 4617 Frames, 64 min, 91 max, 76.950 Avg
R3e) 4463 Frames, 63 min, 89 max, 74.383 Avg

Shadow) 2615 Frames, 36 min, 53 max, 43.583 Avg
SL 1.22) 3436 Frames, 42 min, 85 max, 57.267 Avg

ATI just released a new set of Catalyst 9.4 drivers. Would be great if someone could give them a try and report if they do anything to improve performance and/or fix the font rendering issues. Thanks!

I advise NOT using them from my experience. Vertex Buffer Objects are quite obviously broken in SL with Catalyst 9.4 it would seem (extreme polygon artifacting everywhere), and with that feature disabled framerates suffer horribly. Stick to 9.3/9.2 in my opinion.

Yep, got the same feedback, it seems their drivers are getting worse with every release, not better .

From the current catalysts, 9.1 was recommended a couple of times as working best in comparison.

Hello,

Now the latest Catalyst is 9.8 (08/17/2009)... Do you recommended yet to instal 9.1 or newer catalyst are now beter than the bad 9.2, 9.3 and 9.4?

Thanks.

Sorry, I can't recommend anything as I do not have an ATI card to try. But what I heard says no, issues are not fixed.

@Akasha
There are two versions, one with OpenGL fix, one without. You can just swap the exe to see if it helps your system. In general test results suggest it improves performance on almost all cards.

Downloads - coolviewer - Project Hosting on Google Code (the R9 version)

For all who still don't want to bite the evil bullet and move to 1.23, I've just updated the Cool Viewer to v1.22.11.0 R10. Comes with full adult compliance, new radar, RLV 1.22 and a number of other changes. An OpenGL version I'll make in the next days, and a new Rainbow release is coming soon . Link in my sig.
