bed in water

I hope I'm not the only idiot to have ever done this.

I've just rezed a bed into the water outside my houseboat. I've just barely passed the stage of wearing boxes on my head and I just guessed at what I should do with the bed. I guessed wrong ;-)

How do I get the bed out of the water and positioned inside the houseboat?

thanks

It's in your lost and found.

So, drag it from that folder, onto the ground near where you want it to be.

Then right click on it and choose edit. You'll see three axises, a red, green, and blue one. Just click and drag those and it will move the object along that axis.

Well almost

I rezed it and positiopned it and rotated it and then clicked on the wrong thing and dropped it back into lost and found

Then I accidentaly rezed it to close to my avatar and wore it. I then took a chance and clicked on "take"

Well now my avatar , the bed and half the houseboat has disappeared

sigh

SL is a learning process.

NCI I think is a place that does newbie tutorials on how to build, you'd find something like that pretty invaluable.

Pretty much everyone needs at least a basic understanding of the edit tools, even if you never create a darned thing.

Unfortunately, I now have no avatar. R Jung appears to not exist. I would TP to Help People Institute but I have no avatar as well as no houseboat. Anyone have any idea how to get my avatar back?

Well, your avatar doesn't stop existing.

Try to quit and relog.

That all sounds weird...anything you're wearing should have the 'Detach' option, not 'Take,' and it shouldn't pick up other objects rezzed in-world or make you av disappear. Have you tried clearing cache and relogging?

OK. I found myself at the ocean floor and deleted the bed

I now need to re rez the house boat.

Two walls of the houseboat are currently showing. The rest is missing ( but still in inventory)

Should I try to rez the houseboat on top of those walls or should I get rid of the walls first?

I hope that was a Copy bed, because you really really don't want to delete No Copy items.

If the bed is indeed No Copy, and you really did Delete it, drag it out of your Trash before that gets emptied.

Robert, if you need any help inworld Im me

And yes, go to NCI (New Citizens Inc.) and have a look around, there are some boards that give notecards with basic info about SL. I never attended classes there, but the notes were great and I learn a lot from them.

I sugest the Ivory Tower too, if you want to learn the basic building. There are great tutorials there, that you follow at your own will.

Robert, I sympathize but geez, too funny, read that book whatever it is. And like Tary says the Ivory Tower is a great learning place but you need to learn to just right click choose edit and look at the options.

OK I'm pretty certain the problem is solved!

For your entertainment I present this story ;-)

1 This started because I tried to rez the bed next to a wall. Instead I put it outside the wall (I tend to be sloppy with the mouse)
2. All I had to do was either "take" it back into inventory or edit it and move it
3. Instead I panicked and started this thread
4. When I went back the bed had been sent to my Lost and Found
5. I followed Joshuas advice and successfully rezed and positioned the bed
6. I accidentally leaned on a key and the bed disappeared
7. Next I thought I would experiment and take a chance. I clicked on the middle of the room so I wouldn't have as much re positioning to do. That meant that I clicked on me, but I figured the bed would be smart enough to rez on the floor
8. So I rezed the bed on me
9. I didn't immediately see 'detach' but I saw 'take' so I thought I would just 'take' the bed off of me
10. instead, I took 90% of the house and put it back in my inventory
11. w/o the houseboat, my avatar fell to the bottom of the ocean
12. I then re-rezzed the boat, using rezfaux and also, the oldfashioned way w/o rezfaux at least 7 or 8 times
13. each time, the houseboat disappeared when I finished it.
14. I sent an IM to my landlady, Gabrielle
15. This morning, I read her IM
16. so, the reason why the houseboat wouldn't rez was I forgot to wear the group title that gives me permission to rez the boat on the property!

so everything's ok now

[grin]

Glad that you it sorted out
My first attempt at rezing and editing a pre-fab so that it was at the correct height took days

That was very entertaining.
Don't worry about it.
After over 2 years in SL, and almost 1.5 year teaching building- and scripting classes at NCI, I still sometimes manage to accidentally delete half my house or something like that.
The good thing is that you'll get really experienced in fixing things again.

I'll join the others here who offered help.
If you have a problem, IM me. If I don't react I'm probably teaching (I close my IM's then) but will see it after class.

Have fun!

I can't imagine the number of times I had to yank something back when I was living at Sarah's because I forgot to change my group title.
Then there was the time I deleted the skybox wall.
And just last week I deleted the whole sky box - it's all one piece. Happily I had written down the coordinates and could re-place it.

You don't have to take something back to inventory if you just need to change its group. Just set that group active, then on the first tab of the object properties click the button next to the group.
