Parcel media

I'm just trying to find some sort of document that describes all the types of media audio that can be put into a parcel.

I'm not having good luck on my search. I simply must not be wording my query right.

Can m3u files be played? If so, if the m3u contains an OGG file, can it be played in SL?

No m3u files, I guess there are media player issues with those, but pls files on the other hand can supposedly be used. I'm about to try that.

I was mainly trying to see if there was a way I could host a station without having to use up my bandwidth. Now I know there is a way.

Here's an example from wikipedia:
Code:
[playlist]
NumberOfEntries=3

File1=http://streamexample.com:80
Title1=My Favorite Online Radio
Length1=-1

File2=http://example.com/song.mp3
Title2=Remote MP3
Length2=286

File3=/home/myaccount/album.flac
Title3=Local album
Length3=3487

Version=2
I just need to figure out the duration in seconds for the songs I have up on a server and I should be able to do it.

DJ'ing is a different subject altogether. I know how to do that, I was just trying to find out if there was a way of hosting a station using songs I have up on a server.

Nope, that doesn't work either.

The pipe command doesn't work either.

And the m3u doesn't work either. But they let me link directly to an mp3. Whatever.

Time for me to dedicate a computer to streaming while I lose 1/3 of my bandwidth. That's fine, that's how LL wants it.

There is an option that was brought to my attention, and I'm going to try it out:

I'm going to make my whole playlist a single mp3 file and then host it on my Kizzume server. That should do it. I originally thought it would have to download the whole file before playing it, but I've been told that that may not be the case. I'll know soon enough.

This option worked. It's a 100mb file, but it worked. Yeay!

Ugh, the only disadvantage is that it starts from the beginning of the file every time--it doesn't act like a stream, but at least it works.

you could rig up a lsl scripted object, to change the URL of the land at a specified time. in that way you'd REALLY be DJing, starting and stopping each song..

This is probably your best option, though keep in mind it still doesn't exactly replicate streaming. Any person who enters the area subsequent to the start time of the .mp3, or otherwise has to restart their connection, will have to start the song anew from the beginning. Then they will only be partway through the current song when the next one is dropped into the Media URL slot.

Good info. Thanks very much

Just to note: I am planning on actually DJing at points (and when I am truly DJing, I don't really care if my FPS is awful or if people are taking forever to rez because of my bandwidth--at that point my main focus is being the DJ) I primarily want something that I can have on my land that will play when I'm not there. Most of the music I'm putting on there is my own music and other independent music. (When I DJ, it's the music that everyone else wants to hear--I've got over 6,000 songs in my library as far as that goes--I'm looking forward to it.)
