I would like to make my own mixes (not my own music, just favorite stuff) to stream at my public island. I think I know how to make like one long QuickTime audio file and host that, but visitors would start from the beginning every time they visited the isle, which I don't want.

I've looked a bit at the Shoutcast site, and I see how you can do live broadcasts and such- but what about doing a continuous loop of a long pre-recorded broadcast? What kind of software/hosting do I need?

Also... if I did something like this, would I have to worry about ASCAP and whatnot? (Because that would be a no-go, I reckon.)

The only thing I can think of off-hand is renting a stream from someone like Diamond Rentals, downloading SAM or Winamp and setting up a looped queue of your favourite songs in a playlist folder.

Also, I just found this on the official SL Forums. A site called MediaMaster that lets you upload your own MP3s so you can access playlists from anywhere on the internet. Supposedly their audio URLs work in SL.

Also... is Diamond Rentals an in-world thing? How do you rent a stream?

Yep, it's an in-world company. I wish I had the name of the owner on hand, but it's been months since I've needed a stream of my own.

I think I paid 2000L / mo for my stream and it was down for perhaps 15 seconds a month for maintenance.
