| The Scooter didn't cut it So I tried to be earth friendly and slash my driving budget by getting the scooter. Loved it, fun to drive. Hauls me and the GF around fine except for one problem. It won't do the interstate. I NEED to be able to get down the highway with show props and costumes etc. So yesterday I bought an '83 Honda Silverwing GL650 Interstate. I had 2 of over the years and it's a great bike. 47 MPG and only costs $125 a year to insure. Of course I had to slap $50 worth of Antique Brass Poly Flake and a couple coats of clear lacquer on it. I still have to do some graphic stripes and pin striping but the paint has to cure first. ![]() She was garage kept for 14 years. A mechanic bought it and put new tires, hoses, brakes etc. and then his truck motor blew up. I got the bike for $1000 and he was on the phone with the engine guy before I drove away. Only 34k miles and I'm a happy camper. It's not the scooter but it's a lot better than an SUV!

Incomprehensible gibberish
| Those are great bikes! The Hondas run forever. (I'm partial to my Yamaha V-Star, but Oryx rides a Honda, so I have to grudgingly give them props. ) Have fun with it and keep the rubber side down. |

| Well today was DMV day and it fits totally within this sub-forum lol. Get there at 10 minutes before opening at 8am. Longish line but I expected that. I was sitting at the window with my paperwork in 30 minutes, not bad. Find out the prior owner did not "Non-Op" the bike.* There's $200 in fines. Ouch! That's not the fees or anything that's just the back fines on the title. So as I'm telling the lady I can't afford it, I only have $178 to my name. Seriously, well there is $20 in the bank but I got $178 and that's it. While I'm talking to my GF about it, and we're about to stand up and go find a way to borrow $200 the lady hands me a slip of paper and says "$174" Say what? The lady at the DMV, without me even asking, took the $200 in back fines off and had me pay just the registration fees for those 2 years. $31 a year for a total of $62. So the total bill was $174, $4 less than I had! Woot! So I got in and out of the DMV in under an hour and they knocked $140 in fines off for me without even being asked to! That was sooo cool! I put 100 miles on her on the Interstate today, 50 out and 50 back. LOVE this bike. Does 80 easy and the Stereo rox! Nice comfortable ride. * California requires all vehicles to be registered whether they are running or not. If your going to park something for any time you have to register it as a Non-Operational vehicle or pay $50 every 6 months in fines. |
