Fading...
| The playoffs bring out the worst in every team. Everybody wants the Cup. Putting Brad Marchand in the same group as people like Matt Cooke and Steve Downie is ridiculous. Marchand doesn't try to end other players' careers. |

Business: Not Too Shanty | Suspended, elbow to the base of the skull Reviewed, no suspension but Shanahan "Didn't like it" Slew foot, very dangerous. Fine $2500 Clothesline then ducking a hit Nut punch, no fine but seriously? wtf Suspended 5 games. Clipping All very cheap, dirty plays. No place for any of them in any sport. Any one of the hits or slew foot could easily have ended a career so yes, I put those hits in the same category as Cooke, Tootoo or Downie The guy has been in the league barely 2 years and has all those already? No, he's not dirty at all.... Too bad. He has real talent but the cheap shots/dirty play needs to stop |

I finally got a chance to watch these. I don't agree with two of them. The clothesline video looked like he was stepping around the guy instead of taking a boarding hit...which it would have been if he didn't step around. Yes, he separated his arm from the stick, but that was to get around him faster and make less of a target. The clipping call was lame and should never have been called because that was NOT on or below the knee. It was on the thigh and it was more the type of hip checks that old time hockey was made of. There is one point in that video where Shanahan is explaining it and the clip is stopped. From that "stopped" angle, it appears to be at his knees, but then they continue rolling the clip and you can see the contact is actually made on the thigh.

![]() Seriously though: Comments by coach towards an organization? $20,000 fine Coach questioning refs? $10,000 fine Elbows, hits, slashes that injure and can potentially ruin a career? Max $2,500 fine Suspensions to prevent illegal blows to the actual players that it employs? Inconsistent at best Something doesn't seem right here

Business: Not Too Shanty | Biting a player didn't cause him to lose a shift, never mind a game. I didn't like the bite and Burrows should have been suspended a game or few, but who sticks their finger in someones mouth anyways? Quote:
Anyways, if people can't see that those hits are dirty and deserved the suspensions he received, then there's really nothing left to discuss. Look past the colour of his jersey to the actual suspended plays. He's on the books now as a repeat offender so you'd better hope he doesn't get one this playoff run or he'll be gone for a while.

Business: Not Too Shanty | I'm not overly shocked to be honest, but they are screwed. LA is considerably better than their 8th seed would suggest. Like Boston last year, Vancouver just doesn't match up well against that style and LA was probably the worst match up of the 8 besides maybe Nashville. At least nobody can call the Sedins soft after Hendrick soaked up Browns hit and finished the game. Wow The Flyers/Pens series appears not to have any goalies that can stop the puck. Every other series has been hard fought and entertaining. Especially the Rangers/Sens series. Brutal. Nobody is getting out of that one healthy Is it just me or is there a ton of head hunting, flagrant elbows etc? What is going on? I can't remember the last time I saw so many uncalled for, nasty plays in one round of the playoffs. |

My Mood: SL Join Date: 2/29/2008 | 25 games o.O I realize it's Torres but seems excessive, I thought it would be 10-15 games. Especially when the refs/linesmen calling that game didn't get canned, for not only failing to call the hit but giving Phoenix a powerplay out of it, which arguably ended up basically handing them the game. Cooke and Simmonds got game misconducts for yapping in their series*, but send a guy out on a stretcher and they hand his (NHL owned business fail, no conflict of interests there) team a chance to score a goal, with the offender staying out on the ice to contribute and finish the game. Only Gary Bettman could make me almost feel bad for the guy, whom I've long agreed is a scumbag. It's an easy 10 game(minimum) suspension, but 25 I'd think should be reserved for the kind of hit Claude Lemieux became famous for - and much as I dislike Torres, this just wasn't one of those hits. *not that I'm questioning that call, but if they genuinely missed the hit the refs could have given Torres a 10 min penalty under any pretense, and isn't all that uncommon for them to do so when they feel it's warranted to keep things on the ice under control. I think it's been fun for the entire east coast of US & Canada. Definitely the most entertaining series I've seen in awhile. I'm rooting for Philly(more for Briere), but won't be surprised if the Pens come back to win it in game 7.
