Snapzilla Photo Editing Replaced with PicMonkey

The demise of the Picnik service in mid-April ended up not impacting the photo editing features on Snapzilla at all, as Picnik has been replaced by PicMonkey. The PicMonkey service is very similar to Picnik (it was created by several members of the Picnik team), and has some great editing tools already available. They also kept the API exactly the same as Picnik's, so I only had to make minor changes to integrate it into Snapzilla.

To edit your images, just click on Edit Original Image or Edit Copy of Image. It will load the image into PickMonkey for you to edit. When you are finished with the changes, just click Save at the bottom. It takes about 15-30 seconds to save the image, and then you are returned to the site.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks for the reminder.

When taking a photo in SL I usually think something like this: "Do I want to put this on my HD, edit it in GIMP, and upload it to Sanapzilla or should I just put it on Snapzilla as it is." I almost always choose the latter ;-)

Thanks for the reminder that basic editing can be done on SZ itself - now I just have to remember to use it ;-)

I am so happy that you were able to get a replacement. I looked at Picmonkey and liked it lots but haven't blogged because all I could think about it "now I have to save it to my system or open a new window and edit it, then send it to snapzilla, then get it on my blog"

I have lazy and super happy I can just do it all off of snapzilla now.

Thank you Cris!

I've been using PicMonkey for the past 2 weeks, trying it out at the suggestion posted on Picnik's website before the closed. I've been very pleased with it so far, it has many of the same features as Picnik, and right now they're all free. I'm super-excited that I can not edit them right from Snapzilla!! Thanks, Cris!!!

I've used it on my past few pictures on Snapzilla... it works well. The only problem I have is that sometimes it gets hung up trying to post the updated picture back to Snapzilla... but I had that problem with Picnik as well. I imagine it's really something on my end.

By the way, how are they supporting themselves? Are we going to be looking at PicMonkey closing down in a little bit too?

I have a feeling, from the wording when you use some of the features, that at some point in time, it will be a paid subscription for all but the basic editing tools. Like Picnik was. You can use some of it, but if you want the really cool stuff, you'll have to pay. If it's relatively cheap, like Picnik was, I'll have no problem subscribing on a monthly, or whatever, basis.

I'm sure they will sell premium subscriptions eventually the way Picnik did. Picnik did not shut down because of lack of money, but because Google bought them and then decided they wanted the features solely for Google+.

Thanks for the clarification. I had forgotten that Picnik was... consumed.
