Exclamation I need your help

Ok, after 6 years of Snapzilla, I am in a bit of a rut and need some help. I would love some feature requests/ideas on what you would like to see added to the site.

Some stuff that is coming up:

- sidebar replaced with a menu bar across the top
- messaging system
- notification system

Any additional ideas large or small would be greatly appreciated.

I don't use Snapzilla. (I signed up for it and then had to do something inworld to complete it, which I couldn't remember, and then let it pass for a while, which made it even harder to remember where I was in the registration process, and then I wasn't sure how to figure out what I needed to do....ramble ramble...and then I think I talked to you about it... or I planned on talking to you about it but didn't...I can't remember that part either....ramble ramble....) So I'm not sure if this already exists or whether I can describe it accurately. But is there a way to view people's albums in a page-after-page method, like paging through a real photo album? Flickr has this, and it is how slideshows in the NY Times work (I'm using these examples because I'm not sure I am describing it right). Here's a link to a NY Times slideshow: Link. It makes it easy to look through pics in the order they were posted, allows the pics to be large, and is IMO an attractive way to view the pics. It looks to me that when I click on a pic in someone's album, I get a bigger version of that pic but no way to go to the next pic from there. Or maybe there is and I'm missing it. Have I mentioned I'm half-awake?

I have been looking for a nice slideslow solution, I just haven't found quite the one I want yet. I would definitely like to improve albums.

BTW, you can navigate from picture to picture once you click to view one. When you are in an album, the side of the picture page has links for the next and previous image in the album:

Yeah that Ari.

It was a something that I had to copy and paste into a something and I forget now, but it worked a treat the one time I did it! After I forgot I never bothered again. Pity, because I like the idea. It might be easier now?

Not sure this is really what you're thinking in terms of upgrades/suggestions, I'm probably thinking more along the lines of inworld use but...

I guess I represent the non-SL-savvy crowd as all my friends don't even read the flogs or forums or anything...just are casual visitors with their cute houses and wardrobes.

They have no clue about snapzilla..and when I tried to explain it...well, they find it confusing since they can already either save it to inventory or their harddrive. ((sorry))

One thing that might help catch the new SL folks would be to tie it to Showcase. Take a place like AM Radio...show it in Showcase and then next to its listing show all the pictures people have taken of AM radio (almost like an automatic flickr stream which doubles as a preview to the area they may visit) and then it'll hopefully pique people's interest in the location and in taking their own new and interesting pictures of them by using snapzilla.

--------------
As far as bells and whistles? I don't know if I use it often enough to know of anything missing.

You've never had to copy and paste anything. After you create an account on the site, you just have to send a picture to register@slpics.com from your SL account to confirm and it registers you fully. You have been registered since 2008 - let me know if you need help accessing your account.

Melodie Darwin. I added a caption to the upper left. I am going to make some adjustments to it, but I'm very happy with it. I've been looking for a non-Flash viewer and finally found the right one. All of the pictures are also linked and will open a new window to the image page.

For me using Chrome, Melody Darwin's album turned up as a blank page at first and needed reloading. Orin's loaded right away... the page layout strongly reminds of FlickR. But it's much better, in my opinion, more focus on the pic itself instead of the navigation items.

As for copy & paste during the sign-up process - well, I did copy and paste the register@slpics.com email to send a snapshot to it. That didn't help either, but well...

My suggestion: Someone tries to login, but hasn't completed the registration process yet, so they get the error page. Could the "How do I become a registered Snapzilla user?" headline on that page get changed to anything like "Your registration isn't complete", optionally displaying which of those 5 setup steps the user is missing to get registered?

I'd like the ability to change the order of photos in an album. Currently they default to upload date/time.

Also, I haven't been able to send photos to Snapzilla via SL postcard for months now. I had this problem with the last V1 viewer, V2 and Ascent. Is the address still pics@slpics.com? I don't get an error message, they just never appear on Snapzilla. I have to manually upload everything.

Psst... its Melodie(There is a Melody Darwin but we're 2 different people).

I really like the gallery format like that, it seems a lot less cumbersome than the albums are now.

I'd really like to see something more with groups, I know I haven't even tried to use them but there are some interesting images hiding in different groups. Maybe sticky some "how to's" in the Snapzilla forum of things like groups, graphics, post-processing etc. I'm not sure if that would over-lap with tutorials too much, but the Snapzilla section has been where I've usually looked first. (And I still can't seem to get the Snapzilla signature to work for me.)

I love the gallery slide show you posted Cris and would love to see that implemented.

Brig's idea of being allowed to change the order of the pix would also be a real bonus.

Christiano:

Have you considered using lightbox? It's fast and lightweight javascript.

And most importantly. It's not ASP.

Lightbox 2

BTW I'm using Chrome and the Gallery you posted above is very very slow.

I couldn't seem to access my account again after I'd saved some images to my disk and tried to reset to Snapzilla... You can send anything I need to access it to the same e-mail account of mine you have (and it's Roxanne Bloobury in SL, of course.)

What does "it's not asp" mean? Also, I am using Chrome as well and it is not slow for me at all. What version are you using? The gallery I used is also just javascript.

Also, I hate Lightbox 2. Snapzilla already has a lightbox script - Highslide. I'm still evaluating gallery scripts though.

My bad. I didn't bother to look deeper and I am totally unfamiliar with ASP except bad end-user experiences so I sorta have this "oh no" moment whenever I see .aspx. The gallery is slow for me however and the arrows jump off screen occasionally when I mouse over them.

Google Chrome 9.0597.98

I recently discovered lightbox for use on one of my sites and I love it. Not entirely done testing yet (On my ubuntu box) but so far it seems stable and fast in Safari, Opera, Chrome, Firefox, and IE.

The "oh no" moment is completely irrational. Also, the server side technology has nothing to do with the client side experience. The HTML for the album images needs to be dynamically generated on the fly. The gallery itself is just jQuery. Lightbox is not bad, but does not meet my needs for this. Also, it uses prototype - I am already using jQuery and do not need another JS framework.
