What features would you like to see added to Snapzilla?

I would like some feedback on features you would like to see added to Snapzilla. Group support and Twitter integration are coming soon, and beyond that, I would really like some suggestions on what improvements you would like to see. Thank you!

An idiot-proof way to add friends on there. I have not, as of yet... figured it out.

OoOoOOh! And a Graphical Relationship Link!

Start typing the name into the Buddy List search bar and it'll give you suggestions. Choose the correct name by clicking from the list, then click the 'Add' button. Tah dah!

Before I start, it should be mentioned that you probably should make a "Snapzilla Announcement" leading to this thread. Right now, only a small segment of snapzilla users know about it. (remember that "SLU users who use snapzilla" is only a small subset of "Snapzilla Users".)

okay let's see here...

  • Cleaner layout.
Things are a little cluttery still, and it requires a lot of scrolling. I know you've done some prework on the navigation.. I'll see if I can dummy up some sketches.
  • More signature options.
I love the Snapzilla signature, but I'd like more than one design to choose from. Different styles, different sizes, maybe some actual customization?
  • More "Album" love.
And integration with the "SLU Album". Right now, the method for creating a new album, and changing an album's name and other details is still a bit cryptic and counterintuitive.

Most of what I'm seeing is really just an issue of age. Snapzilla is showing a little fraying on the edges. You've added features, and that's cool, but they (currently) tend to look a little like shiny new knobs on an old radio. There's nothing wrong with that radio.. but right now the knobs don't quite match.

Winter,

Here is a prototype of the new navigation:

http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/menubar.aspx

The left hand nevigation is going to disappear completely.

As far as the SLU albums, that is a feature that vBulletin tacked on. It is a totally different technology and purpose than Snapzilla, so there won't be any integration between the two. However, I am planning on bringing some Snapzilla features into the forums.

The signature option is a good one - i can easily create variations. I also need to put back the album signature. I also have a completely revamped live panel coming as well that uses Flash.

The site itself uses a master page system, so I can easily swap out the design when I'm ready to - it is a matter of first ditching the left hand navigation.

Okay I did a little sketch work on the "master panel" layout.. This is just preliminary and it's only pixels, so no one get excited.. it's just a suggestion.

Okay.. let that soak in a little bit.
Left is current, Right is the mock-up.

here's a breakdown of how I'd see something like this working.

This idea also includes a few usability and presentation changes.

  1. Main Image.
This image is much larger, and it is clickable. When clicked, it opens the document page, rather than zooming open the image. I, myself, have found the "click image to zoom" to be extremely counterintuitive. Most of my images include text, and a user currently has to "magically know" how to load the image page to see it.

This image is scaled to fit, rather than letterboxed. The equivalent film term is "pan and scan". I don't know quite how better to explain this, but a widescreen image would have it's sides chopped off, rather than have black bare added.
  2. Truncated description.
This, again, would lead to the image page.
  3. User Attribution.
Like now, this link would link to the user's photostream page. Perhaps on mouseover it could provide a sort of minimal set of user info (avatar, joined date, number of images, etc).
  4. Magnify.
Clicking this will magnify the associated image.
  5. Landmark.
Clicking this will load the slurl associated with the image (grey it out when not available).
  6. Checkbox
Used for several functions, album grouping, mass deletion, etc
  7. Simplified Flickr style Views/Comments
The link here, of course, pops up the comment floater. I suggest that reaction icons be integrated into the comment floater, and that reactions themselves not be tracked on the panels.
  8. Upload date and fuzzy time
Neat information, but not really "important" should be relegated below the frame.
- Things I removed
The tags.
These don't need to be on the main page, especially given how sporadically they're used. Some people will add a dozen tags, most people will add none. Put this on the single image page

The "info" button.
Honestly this is superfluous to the front page. if people want to read the description they can click the image to get to the image's page.

The smilie counter.
While I know it's a new feature, I'm not sure it fits in very well in it's current implementation. Unfortunately the best use for a system like this is either ONE button that just says "like" (ala the love machine, you see it creeping up in media sharing sites "232 users liked this"). Or you build a system more like digg, where people vote up, or vote down an image.. creating a "most popular" metric which you can use to display "today's most popular" images. Of course this can result in pissy people going around downvoting every image a given person uploads, SL is rife with drama.. But combining all the yays, aws, laughs, etc into a single metric seems weird, and a little clumsy (no offense). I think it's an interesting idea, but I don't think that information needs to be on the stream/main page. Move it to the comments floater/image page.

The permalink icon.
As valuable as this is, this information is better presented on the single image page.

As you can see, there's also a good deal of space left below. This could probably be left empty, allowing the page to shrink a bit vertically.

Bigger file size limits, giving the ability to upload .png files as they're saved from SL to hard-disk. At the moment to get them under 600k I have to convert them to jpg (with loss of quality) or shrink them to half size (again with loss of quality).

To answer the question you asked on Plurk, yes I would pay for this if it was to become a paid-only feature, but I wouldn't pay more than the cost of a Flickr pro account.

ETA: It used to be that clicking on the picture took you to the picture page, now it shows a popup larger image. I much preferred it the old way - 99% of the time I'm wanting to go to the picture page to grab the url for posting elsewhere, and there's no easy way to grab the url off that popup.

I would use Snapzilla more frequently if it was possible to monitor a RSS feed and import images from it.

I've discussed this with you personally but I'll repeat it for the benefit of anyone else who agrees.

I rarely take many pictures in SL, but when I do they go to flickr, because all of my other pictures go to flickr. I have no problem, however, with Snapzilla watching a feed for a specific tag, maybe "secondlife," and uploading pictures from that one. That way I can have my SL photos in both places automatically, because at the moment I usually just forget to do it for Snapzilla.

Facebook already does this with my feed all together, so the only concern would be bandwidth and frequency of updates. I think RSS has a hard limit of only refreshing every twelve hours anyway, so it shouldn't be too intensive depending on how you handle it.

But it would mean my stuff gets added to Snapzilla much more often.

I changed the behavior of the thumbnails - they now take you to the picture detail page. There is a zoom icon beneath the picture to zoom in on the image.

Also, I changed the main thumbnails to use auto-cropping instead of letterboxing, with the exception of images that are taller than they are wide. I will finish updating the other thumbnails on album covers, comments, etc.. when I have a chance.

I'm still figuring it all out, but I do have a question. How come some of my images won't permalink, while others do? I want to use Snapzilla from now on instead of Imageshack to post my pics here and across the street.

Oh, and can you put albums inside of albums, like a folder/sub folder deal? That would be nice.

Do you mean why won't some of them embed here if you put in the URL of the page?

Also, subalbums are an interesting idea, I will consider it.

If I click the permalink button for the image, some give me an error, while some give the image that allows me to copy the address and paste it into a post. Is there another way to do it?

EDIT: For example:

Yeah..that one you quoted. . It shows up as a Red X Box, the second one shows up as a picture. If I paste the url into my browser I get the "website can't be found message". This happens for some of my pictures, while others show up fine.

Sorry, Firefox does not show broken images so i didn't realize a second one was there. It was a bug, and I have corrected it. Your images sometimes have .jpeg not .jpg, so it was not handling the full URL correctly. If you copy the permalink again from the page, it will work:
