I am pleased to announce the launch of the new SLShopper.com shopping site - a brand new way to shop for products in Second Life. It combines the strong categorization, browsing,image and search features of an online store with the ease of use of forums, along with the fun of inworld shopping.

SLShopper.com is a hybrid of the best of both online stores and forum classifieds, without the drawbacks of either. You can literally list a product in less than a minute. All you need is a single large product image, the SLURL or link you want your customers to go to, a title, description and price. It's as easy as posting a post in the forums. No inventory to maintain and sync with sites.

Users of the site can easily add products they are interested in to their wish list so that they can browse through and find things they would like to buy.

This bookmarks the ad in a convenient list that shows the product, price, and has a direct link right on the list to go to the product in world.
Ads can also have keywords associated with them, and some categories have special fields like prim count, mimimum plot size, store name, etc. The ads can have up to 6 images - the site handles creating all the thumbnails and other size images for you.

The site is brand new so it does not have much content in it yet but I am actively working with content designers and the fashion blogs to get people to list content. The site is live, so if you are a content creator, start adding your products to the site. SLUniverse has over 800,000 monthly visitors and the site will be fully integrated with the rest of SLU and heavily promoted.

Registration is easy and free - it is fully integrated with the brand new SLU 2.0 Forums at http://forums.sluniverse.com (note - you must reregister if you were registered with the old forums to use the new forums and SLShopper.com). Users can leave comments and ebay style feedback about sellers as well. The SLShopper.com site can also be accessed directly through these forums.

Try out the site and please feel free to send any questions or feedback to me - or post in the new SLU 2.0 forums - there is a feedback forum there. Please excuse the mess while the site is launched and SLU gets a complete overhaul.

I have removed that option from the ad form - thanks for asking about it. The system has Paypal integration for various features, but I have disabled it. There are definitely no plans to offer Paypal purchases, as no selling of products is actually occuring through the site.

BTW, your problem with the Snapzilla images for your trees had nothing to do with the size - for some reason, the image processor does not like those JPEGs - it seems to be a bug in the postcards. You can use larger images for your trees in your ads, just not images from Snapzilla - once I have a solution for that I will let you know.

I had assumed it was new releases only like the SL forums. May we list older items or is it as I originally thought?

I don't think there's a rule either way. I'm putting up whatever of my back-catalogue as I feel like, Cris said it was our perrogative.

Speaking of rules/guidelines.... I have some full body tattoos where the pic is fairly risque (or not, depending on your perspective !)

Vital bits are obscured with a graphic but basically, they're still pics of a nude avatar. What's the rating of SLShopper - Mature or PG

Thanks Cristiano -- after a few trial runs, I was able to post products very quickly. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Search works as the catalog builds up. I've always used the online shopping services for searching, rather than buying, so I think this is a great way to funnel traffic inworld.

Like Mabb, I could use some clarification of content guidelines. I've included nude images for my shapes. There's nothing risque about them in terms of pose but they are fully nude. I consider these images as integral to informing potential customers about the nature of the product, but I'm willing to take them down if they are considered inappropriate content.

I guess it's mature, Cris mentioned he was making a separate version of slshopper for the teen grid.

ZOMG AVATAR NUDITY

Actually, the guideline is that as long as the images are not sexually explicit (defined as depicting sex acts), I don't have a problem with it. I would ask that any images that do contain nudity are not set as the primary image for the product (the first image slot, which becomes the thumbnail image for the product on the site).

As the site is starting out, everything is new to it. I definitely see how it could be overwhelmed by one person putting in several hundred items at once, though the site has a wide variety of sorting and sear
