SLUniverse will be joining the thousands of sites going dark on Wednesday, January 18 to protest the dangerous SOPA/PIPA legislation in the US. The entire site will be unavailable from 12 AM ET on Wednesday to 12 AM ET on Thursday, with a message and links to take action.

I feel it is necessary to take this step in solidarity, as this legislation threatens all sites including this one and will have a dramatic chilling effect on the Internet. I do think it is important to combat piracy and protect the rights of copyright holders, but this legislation is not the way to do it. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Cris, is there any way to get the word out to sites that might either take notice or follow suit?

I realize it's a little late in the game, but surely there are some SL-related blogs and sites that might take note.

Otherwise it would feel like we're shouting in an empty room. To me, at least.

My stupid joke put aside. Cristiano I think this is a great idea. SOPA is the biggest threat to our rights in history as far as I am concerned. Right to privacy and right to free speech are the my biggest concerns. I couldn't imagine the cost involved to meet standard for web-providers if this bill is passed. Guess who absorbs those cost?

I am not sure a day is long enough to get a point across.
