I have added a new skin by request called Mobile SLU. This is a mobile device text only version of the forums. I am still working on changing the style a bit as the original had some pretty bad colors, but it is functional (I read some posts on my Samsung A920 cell phone). There is a link at the very bottom to get back to the Dark SLU theme - from there you can then switch to Blue SLU if necessary.

To make it as easy as possible to access from a mobile device, I have added the domain sluniverse.mobi - this domain will take you to the forums with the correct skin selected. No having to deal with a full version first and trying to switch.

I just added the domain so it may take a day or so to propogate to all servers.

I don't mind though, the high contrast well on the mobile. I see we still get the WoW character nick thing like we did on SC. I'm a little dissapointed there are no embedded images (Images people post in threads) as my cel always resized em to fit. Apparently it links to images though and that works.

The linking is a little weird somtimes though, like look at my refuge rights post, it linkifies half the post. If it could just create a link that says (IMAGE) and only that text is a hyperlink that would be nice.

Thanks for the getting the mobile though! ;-)

Actually the WoW plugin was Cris' idea here first a while back and after the first SC pulldown everyone liked it and asked FIC to add it.

I agree on the mobile skin version though, I finally have a smartphone now and I told Cris he needs to add one.

Yah, I'm aware SLU had the WoW thing before SC. I find its appearance in the mobile skin a little annoying, but it's no biggy. What kind of smartphone did you get Josh?

This rocks. The skin is really usable on a normal browser! I can now browse this at work and when they monitor me it won't look QUITE so out of place.

I still have to spend some time working on it - you requested it in the middle of the night and I had it up pretty soon after. It is a brand new skin so it is going to take a little time to perfect.

Oh I'm not complaining, just commenting. I figure it makes more sense to let you know what I think of it now while your working on it rather than a month from now. If you prefer for me to wait a month and break out the Rabble Rabble emotes let me know.

But yah, I am surprised and appreciate it being up so soon since I asked (Even if it was mentioned back in June).

Cris, did you just setup the browser detector? Because it keeps forcing me back to the Dark SLU skin when I open any link. I'm using Opera Mobile 8.65 for Windows Mobile and I have it set to identify itself as a handheld device.

It works ok in Pocket Internet Explorer though.

Just as an aside personally I prefer to be able to choose the skin manually, the domain you setup is a good option for me (I just bookmarked a url with the styleid on SC). But having a drop down on the bottom of the mobile skin to change skins would be nice (Because sometimes for whatever reason I want to use the full skin, usually because the mobile one is lacking a feature).

Some people like to use the mobile skin on their desktops too, like at work. Changing it in the user CP is a hassle as I like the full skin at home and mobile on my mobile.

Anyway, input, blah!

Hmm...

Well I reinstalled Opera, cleared the cache and it's still doing it. Is there any code that requires us to view the site via the sluniverse.mobi url? I don't know why the browser would change the style constantly since thats a server setting...

If I use my bookmark that has the StyleId=4 in it, it works. But once I click any link to go to another page it switches back to the SLU Dark skin. I'll have to examine the page source when I get home, strange that it worked half the day then suddenly stopped working.

Nokia n75. I finally got a real cell phone plan cos I get a 30% discount through work, but not on my prepaid plan.

Hmm, I broke down and cleared cookies and that appears to have corrected the isue. So a corrupted cookie seems the likely cause, is the styleid stored in the cookie?

I'll have to check later. If I manage to reproduce the problem I'll let ya know.

EDIT:

StyleID is indeed stored in the cookie rather than server side.

A Nokia eh Josh? Post a pic of it with SLU on it. Is that the one that folds out with a keyboard or another?

No it's a flip phone.

I'm actually considering looking into something that's more smart than phoney... I got an unlimited data plan so I might as well get a device that puts it to good use.

I like the MotoQ myself (New model coming out soon), or you could go full PDA with a Treo. Blackberries are good for the novices but its pretty different from Windows.

Yeah I have a Treo from work, I'm not the biggest fan of it.

I was half-heartedly looking through trying to find a Windows Mobile device but I can't make up my mind.

Anything I get has to be on AT&T though.

Hey Cris, got a request here. The title of each page in the mobile skin is "SLUniverse Forums Mobile", think you could change that to "SLU - Thread Title"? Or something to that effect?

Would just make it easier to navigate when one has multiple tabs open.
