*sighs* I am sorry; early on when these chickens were new on the scene I defended them as fun little Tamagotchi-style game. I did that because I perceived criticisms of them to be directed at the people who enjoyed playing with them - along the lines of "what kind of idiot would spend money on that?"

But I was wrong about the chickens themselves; it's become clear in the intervening months that (a) the chickens are obnoxious resource-hogs, and (2) their creator is at least slightly insane.

I still think there is room in SL for fun little Tamagotchi-style games and collector games and if people are motivated to spend money on them so much the better for their creators. But I feel like a dweeb for having defended this particular one before it became widely apparent what a nuisance they would be.

Since a good friend of mine was closely involved in this debacle, I have pretty much avoided the later chicken griefing thread discussions. It was more by preference of not wanting to spend time on virtual "pets" when my RL pets were already attention starved enough than by any foresight that I avoided being in the middle of this crap storm...

I sympathize with your situation, Carter, as some very experienced SL members became intensely involved with these little resource monsters, and suggested it would be fun if I did so too. (whew...)

As you know, I have been gunning for those little fuckers since I had the misfortune of owning two of them. I've never had anything against people who enjoyed them, though, even if it all got to be a bit crazy. In the end, the creator has shown his true colors. I do hope that someone capitalizes on the situation and comes out with a product without all the problems. It is a fun idea, the implementation just sucked.
