A company has released an iPhone app called Tapatalk that provides browsing and posting support for vBulletin forums (instead of the browser based viewing). The SLU Forums are included in the supported sites, in the Computers and Internet section.

The app costs $2.99, but if you regularly read the forums on your iPhone or iPod Touch, I think it is a much improved experience to viewing SLU in Safari. For more information, see this site:

I read in their forums they are going to be releasing a free version that connects only to their forum, so you can test out the functionality. I think it is very well done - there is room for improvement, but it is incredibly readable and easy to navigate.

Been playing around with it and love it! The only thing I notice missing is the reaction buttons, but otherwise it looks great!

Yeah I noticed that too, but I doubt it's something Cris can control. The HTML looks to be hard-coded, so things like plugins seem to be out.

Does it do landscape? I love the bigger on screen keyboard as I can type faster, but it isn't a necessity of course!

I received notice that a new version has been submitted to Apple that is waiting on approval that contains support for private messages and a speed increase. It should be released in a few days hopefully.

Testing it now, it lets you switch to landscape when typing a post, but it doesn't looking like it does it when reading.

It doesn't seem to be availabe in the UK yet. I searched the app store and got nothing, then I clicked the link on their web page and got a message from the app store saying it couldn't complete the action.

I received the new beta that is pending release from Apple, and it is already an improvement over the last version. It is much faster and has PM support. I definitely would recommend getting it if you do use an iPhone/iPod Touch to look at the forums.

I have spent a lot of time using this, and there is one feature that is very useful but not completely obvious because of limited space. When you go into a thread, you can quickly jump to the latest posts by clicking the icon in the upper right corner - it gives you the option to reply, refresh, and to show newest posts. It makes it very easy to catch up on threads on the iPhone.

Nevermind, I take it back. It only shows up when there's more than 20 posts in a thread. Only 20 get loaded at a time.

You can easily view the latest posts, view and reply to threads, and also view your private messages. It is fast and the UI is very clean and intuitive.

A new version has been submitted to Apple, and they added:

- Full pagination support - now you can easily jump to different position within a long thread, you can also enter the page number where you want to jump to!
- Better session management
- See who's online - now you can see who's currently online in your forum! And easily send a private message to them with a single tap.

It seems to take forever for updates to get approved by Apple, but it is nice to see they keep improving Tapatalk even more.

Responding using the iPhone app. Good find.

But I could not edit my post sing the App (on my desktop now). And I would like to be able to remain logged into each of my forums at the same time.

Push notices when a new post is made to the thread we are subscribed to would be sweet also.
