In the interest of allowing personalization to these forums, I have added in a custom smileys feature. Each user is able to upload up to 50 custom smileys of their own, which only they see in their smiley list.

To upload them, go into your User Control Panel and click the Manage Custom Smileys link, near the bottom of the list on the left hand side.

Once uploaded, you access the smileys by clicking the [Custom] link at the top of the smiley list (note it is hard to see on the dark skin, I am working on changing it). This will give you a popup window that will show the custom smileys you have uploaded, plus the standard set.

Please note: custom smileys are inserted differently. You must click on it in the popup to insert it - you can't use :name: shortcuts for custom smileys, only the built in ones. They are inserted as inline images. This is a small price to pay for the flexibility of having user defineable smileys.

Please have fun with this feature, but also note that any abuse of it will not be tolerated. I will remove the feature from individual people if it is misused. If you have any questions about it, please let me know.

Specificaly how concerened are you going to be about permisions. Many new people are going to come here from SC and want to bring some of the smiles there here. Many of those are created by a local Gif artist "Morna" and most of the SC people can get permision to use most of those by sweet talking her

However Mother FIC alowed people to grab others from a varitie of places without bothering with permision. Also im sure some of the people from over their would like to use a five finger salute. It might also be a good idea to sugest a normal and maximum file size.

I think when he meant abuse he was referring more to using smilies to attack other people.

Like uploading one of a donkey's rear and naming it someone's username.

By abuse, I was referring specifically to using smileys to harass someone. I doubt it will be an issue at all, I just wanted to mention it upfront.

You raise an interesting point about use of smileys. The images come from such a wide variety of sources that it is often difficult to tell what the permissions are, and also given that it is for non-commercial use, I can't see there being much issue. However, it is important to respect the terms of use of whatever site you do take smileys from. I have found this site has very liberal terms of use and a great set of smileys in a variety of colors:

Is there any way I can reduce my lil panda I use at SC so it will work? I'm good in ps but know nothing about animated gifs.
