My Mood:      |  Major Snapzilla change Well, after more than a year of threatening to fix the "bug" in SL that caused snapshots not to pay attention to the updated snapshot panel settings in SL (such as resolution, image quality, etc..) and instead caused them all to be a consistent, reasonable size for the past 3 years, it finally happened. As of some random time in the middle of the day on Wednesday, August 1, the postcard format changed. What does this mean for Snapzilla? Well, it means now that the postcard images coming through are a variety of resolutions and file sizes, from the current size (which is about 40k) all the way up to 1 meg in file size. This is both a good and bad thing. The clarity on images with the right settings is stunning and the increased resolution can create some amazing images. However, this also dramatically increases the storage and bandwidth requirements for the Snapzilla site, which are already going up dramatically each month as traffic continues to surge (it's over 1 million visitors per month now). Here are some examples of the differences: Old postcard New postcard New postcard I am about to launch a new design for the site that will address the display of the larger images - hopefully it will be ready in a few days. Long term, there will be some changes regarding accepted image sizes. For the time being, there are not any restrictions other than the max postcard size - however, i do ask that users show some common sense and restraint. There does still seem to be a few quirks with the new postcards, especially with very large file sizes that may cause some images to be lost. I apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you to Linden Lab, especially to Torley Linden, for at least providing guidance that this change was coming, even if they could not say exactly when it would happen. Torley has been especially helpful in testing after the change to ensure that images are coming through to the site correctly.
