The DPW has finished construction of an airport at Hau Koda, to serve Bay City. Misty Mole and Naughty Mole have done an excellent job creating the tower, terminal and hangar.

We've got an airway beacon, but we're still pondering what sort of end lights, landing lights etc. are appropriate for runway 9. Takeoffs are normally over Grub Beach and the low-load Regions north of Bay City. It's themed for the late Thirties or early Forties, so no radar or other fancy stuff. The runway is 40 meters wide and 250 meters long, with a seaplane ramp at the eastern end. Join the Bay City ATC group to avoid landing on other aircraft!

I grabbed some Resident-created airplanes and posed them around for some photos:

It's pretty, what do we do with it? Is it instructive, interactive, or just pretty?

Unless they rent out space to residents, then it's just pretty but empty space. There are better resident-owned airports in SL that are actual working airports, including Aeronautica, Zatzai, and of course my favourite, Abbotts Aerodrome.

I remember floating on the border when Abbotts was released. Sulumor's life alt was looking to get a 4096sm block at the time. People were shouting that the Lab had decided to wait until the next day so everybody might as well go home. Those were the days of land rush ha ha ha.

I remember that land rush. I didn't buy any of Abbotts during the rush, myself -- I bought it at auction -- but I remember the patchwork of land owners. There was a casino, a flea market, a couple of houses, and even a church. Now the whole thing belongs to the Aerodrome group.
