This is not at DJQuad.. it is just a general observation because though I see many subjective statements about them not being an alternative, many people including myself have found them to be exactly the alternative we were looking for.

It depends what you are after I guess.
For scripting purposes OpenSim is almost compatible now and in some cases superior to SL. One big lack is saved script states when picking up, changing sims etc. But great for development.

So, when all is said and done, if you take the Linden official line at face value, they believe that residents would be willing to pay US$125/mo for a sim that can only be used for transitory, decorative purposes. The boatload of prims they provide is to be spent on trees, rocks and boulders so that the occasional resident can stroll through (but not linger too long) or sail through. And since they suspended the requirement that OSS needed to be physically adjacent to a specific estate island, they obviously think these little islands in the sea are just what, virtual sprinkles? The SL equivalent of an Easter Egg that someone trips across by accident?

That is just so much bullshit. LL quite deliberately and obviously made these OSS as attractive as possible for light residential use, providing features that are wholly unnecessary for a purely decorative land parcel but ideal for a home.

Yes. They think people will pay that for a sim they're not supposed to live in, not supposed to make a profit from, not supposed to hang in for a longer timespan, and that isn't supposed to have lots of dynamic content in the first place.

It's kind of baffling in that light, isn't it?

Yes they will charge $100 each open space transfer +VAT for the euros...thats why Ive just abandoned an open space, its not even worth selling on. Of the 4 openspace sims I have left one renter wants to stay and will wear the increase, the rest dont know, even if the rent I charge them is what LL charge me it wil still be too much so i think as they leave I will abandon these also.

I also dont know what the charge to join 4 open space sims together will be. And what if an estate owner has 3 openspace sims...would they be able to pay the extra to make it up to one full prim sim and have them converted?

Actually, they changed the transfer rule (forgot which thread that was in) so it now costs $100 for transferring up to 4 openspace sims at once.

I wish theyd done that before when I previously dumped open space sims because it just wasnt worth the transfer after theyd cut the price to $250.

I'm not so sure about that. My experience is that damn near everything LL does results in howls of outrage. There'd probably be a bit less shrieking, but I suspect not by much.
So... yeah. I've seen more of the reaction to the price increase, and it turns out I was wrong. There would have been tons of bitching had they just throttled stuff, but not near this much.

At least this isn't as embarrassing as that time I predicted that sculptie shoes would never amount to anything.

Baffling until we stop and realize LL could not give much care in someone doing those things. The only profit they are concerned with is their own. Somehow they fail to realize if X avatar is making money so will LL in tier, etc. Just like how LL constantly makes land rental companies lose money.. they don't care about that, they just want to see who will pay the big bucks and hang on.

That is a gamble that is beyond baffling.
