My Mood:   | It would be nice if you could simply write text on a prim. And you can, if you feel like wading through the freebie scripts and figuring it out. But you're probably not a scripter. If you just want to write a name on a nameplate once and forget about it ("This is Brianna's Office") you will need to write it out as a graphic image you can upload. Which means you need to know how to use a graphics program. Wonderful. The second option is pretty easy if you do know how to use a graphics program, and there are some easy and free ones running around. Unfortunately I only know how to use the difficult and free ones because I want to do more than write and upload someone's name. Some one else will have to point you to a no-brainer just-get-er-done program, but they do exist. Or you could use floating text which would only require one line of code. But then everyone within 20 meters will see it, and the text will float through walls, and be all confusing. And then the rightfully annoyed local villagers will burn you at the stake and there will be much rejoicing. Linden Labs doesn't like people to do simple things in a simple way. They only make it possible to do simple things in a complicated way. To wit: I don't think anyone has yet invented a way for some one to easily pick up a cup of coffee on a desk, raise it to their lips, drink from it, and put it back down on the desk. And God forbid if you want to offer the cup of coffee from your hand to somebody else's hand, or let someone take a sip while you're holding the cup. There are, however, simple and easy ways to have pixel sex. Welcome to Second Life. |

SL Join Date: March 2007 | If you just need a lettered sign and don't care about being fancy, find any program that lets you save an image as a JPG file. Microsoft PowerPoint will do it, for example. Type your text into the program and find its "Save As ..." button. Save the image on your hard drive as a JPG file. Then log in to SL and click Me (or Avatar or Files, depending what your viewer calls it) >>> Upload Image. It will cost you L$10 (about 4 cents). The purists will be aghast, but that's the simplest way to make a basic sign.

Client: References available on request. Blog Entries: 47 | Oh for Pete's sake. As usual you all make this much more difficult than it needs to be. It is simple. Get a can of spray paint, go next door, write your name, and take a picture. Then upload the image and slap it on the side of a prim. Why must you all make this so difficult? Awww, to heck with this, I will do it for you... *sounds of footsteps growing fainter* *long pause* *sounds of footsteps growing louder* Here ya go!
