During routine ROV surveys in the Gulf of Mexico in about 7000+ feet of water they found a giant squid. Jules Verne was right after all.

How did they arrive at the conclusion that it's giant? I don't see a scale or anything on the screen that would give me hints about how big that hideous thing is. Sea creatures are disgusting, nuke them all

Wow, so they finally found a live one! I agree some sense of scale would be nice, but I'm sure they can make some guesses based on how far away it was from the camera

A post on YouTube suggested it was a bigfin squid. I've never heard of this kind of squid, but it looks similar to the pic in Wikipedia:

They know the size of the nearby pipes and pilings to judge the size. Plus they know the size of the ROV (the size of a 70s era Honda Civic).
