A recent paper was published in Current Biology mapping European Genotypes using PCA (Principle Components Analysis) . The resultant map relates very well to European Geography with The Finns being the most distinct genetic populations. Other outliers include the Italians (possibly emphasising the role of the Alps as a natural barrier) and the British Isles - The PCA map accounts for c.49% of the variation in the sample (based on 2457 individuals - with a bias to Germans (c.1000) ) .
