My Mood: SL Join Date: Jun 27, 2006 Client: 7 of them (I like testing) | My previous house was on an unpaved road, and this is very much what it looked like up close - a mixture of fine dirt and gravel. I imagine a geologist can look at this and immediately say something useful about the parent rocks. Note that one of the cameras on the robot arm can get *much* closer, like millimeters, to where we will be seeing mineral grains. |

My Mood: | For many years NASA has been dishonestly adjusting the color balance on its images, portraying mars as redder and more hostile looking than it is. ![]() Now they have to pretend they are surprised or describe browns with a slight reddish tint as Red. |

Still better than Joshua at
worms armageddon
| Actually there is some truth to it - most of the optical sensors on the previous rovers have been tuned to spectrums other than those the human eye sees (because things like infrared are more useful for determining mineral types). So NASA has had to do some adaption on them to make false colour images from them. |

My Mood: | If curiosity is ready to do spectrography on vaporized rock then it is ready to do so on the methane in the atmosphere to determine the carbon 13/14 ratio and thus definitively determine if it is of organic origin. NASA is most certainly sitting on the most important piece of data. |

| Well we know the largest volcano in the solar system is on mars, so that's were my money is re; methane. Mars has an extremely weak and spotty magnetic field, so there should still be pockets of it's molten core still working. |
