Amazon has just released an iPad app for their Instant Video service; as expected it includes their library of free videos for Prime members.

Also, the HD Apple TV models now offer Hulu+ as a streaming option. Some users may have to reboot their Apple TV to see the new menu item.

We dropped hulu+. Our TiVO did not support it (the cable company disabled it). The wii version did not have captions (a must). If it is available on our bluray it would have been pointless as it does not get a good signal where it is.

According to AppleInsider, KGI Securities is predicting a busy autumn for Apple with eight new or updated products reportedly scheduled for release in September and October.

Both the iPhone 5 and the iPad mini are rumored to be released during the two-month time period. Apple has not yet confirmed any of the new products.

Thinner, lighter, bigger screen, LTE, improved battery life, improved camera, and it's the first smartphone to use ARM Cortex A15 cores in its custom processor. There's at least as much change between the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 as there was between the Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S3, especially considering iPhone 5 will be released simultaneously with iOS 6.

I don't get why Apple has this obsession with thinness. Did anyone complain that the 4S was too thick and heavy ? Couldn't they have used the thickness to fit a larger battery ? Doubling the battery life would have been a killer feature.

As for the bigger screen, iOS doesn't usually to handle new screen resolutions very gracefully, so it remains to be seen how current apps handle the new size. They are still just catching up with the rest of the industry. The screen is larger than the previous iPhone, but coming from a Galaxy S3 or a Lumia, it's still painfully small.

Also, no NFC ? That's a bit silly because the technology is getting ready for prime time and it would have tied-in nicely with their new Passbook wallet thing.

A new iPhone will always be worshipped by iPhone fanboys, but if you look outside the walled garden, it really isn't that exciting for the price.

I think the iPhone 4/4S is just a bit heavy, which probably comes from its front/back glass design. I'm open to a lighter iPhone as long as it doesn't feel insubstantial. There's no guarantee Apple could have coaxed significantly more battery life from a thicker phone; double battery life sounds pretty dubious.

Some like the new trend in giant smartphones, some don't. Apple has stated that they believe that most people should be able to comfortably use the iPhone with one hand. That's why the iPhone 5 has only become longer than the 4S, not wider. You won't see them expanding the iPhone to slabphone size, as they feel no need to compete on that particular spec.

I've never come across any opportunities to use NFC, so I won't miss it. Is it more of a European thing? A lot of geek types seem hot for it.

If nothing else the iPhone always offers excellent design and build quality (just ask Samsung), and the new form factor looks extremely polished. Coupled with across-the-board spec bumps and the best app ecosystem in the industry, it's a pretty compelling phone.

I agree with the size issue. I have a co-worker who got the Galaxy Note phone which has a 5.3" screen. The Note 2 has a 5.5" screen. I Looked at it one day and it felt more like a small tablet than a phone. He has already dropped it a few times while trying to make a call and one time it put a small crack on the side of the screen. To me a 4" to 4.5" screen is the right size for a phone. The one thing that I do like about the Note though is the stylus it comes with.

Right now I'm not sure about NFC either. So far in the U.S. it seems like it is only used if someone else has a device with it in it. There are also several security concerns about it. It is mostly used in Europe and China.

Apple decided to take their time on NFC to see if it got wider acceptance even though some Engineers wanted to include it. Apple also usually doesn't jump on the bandwagon when it comes to new tech.
