I tried Lumiya and it works much better on this tablet than it does on my ASUS Transformer. Not sure if it uses Nexus 7's 12-core GPU though.

I downloaded the free Transformers: Dark of the Moon just to see how it looks on the tablet and it looks as good as it would on a TV but it takes up almost 3 GB of storage so I deleted it. I didn't plan on keeping it anyway. Besides I already have the Blu-ray version and it just got put on Netflix Instant Streaming.

We are pleased to announce that the full SDK for Android 4.1 is now available to developers and can be downloaded through your SDK Manager. You can now develop and publish applications against API level 16 using new Jelly Bean APIs. We are also releasing SDK Tools revision 20.0.1 and NDK revision 8b containing bug fixes only.

For many people, their first taste of Jelly Bean will be on the beautiful Nexus 7. While most applications will run just fine on Nexus 7, who wants their app to be just fine?

Nexus 7 a hit with consumers, selling out across the US | Android and Me

Quote:
All across the web, from the most popular tech blogs online, to even the most devout Apple fans, the Nexus 7 is being hailed as a huge success. And real world sales show it.

Google, GameStop, Staples, Office Depot and Sam’s Club have all run out of Nexus 7s, and have posted one to three week delays on availability for the tablet.

The Google Play store lists the Nexus 7 as shipping soon, which could mean up to couple weeks. Staples, Sam’s Club and Office Depot show it as temporarily out of stock. And GameStop, who is currently offering up 30% extra in in-store credit for anyone trading in used games or hardware towards a Nexus 7, has come forward saying they don’t expect another shipment of the tablets until August 5th, for which they are taking pre-orders for now.

Just a FYI ... seems a minor problem with an easy fix has been found in some of the units so far.

Nexus 7 units suffering from screen separation issues?

The article says that it's a build problem but sounds like its more of a Quality Control problem.

Video of the Nexus 7 and iPad being dropped at chest height, table height and being dropped in a tub. The Nexus 7 wins each time but there is a difference in weight and the Nexus 7 has the rubber back on it so that could make a difference in the dropping test.

ASUS spills jelly beans on why Nexus 7 has no rear camera, cites added cost -- Engadget

Quote:
Google's Nexus 7 tablet may be receiving OnLive Universal Controller support soon. What the Jelly Bean-flavored device won't be getting, however, is a rear-facing camera. Now ASUS is offering an explanation for the omission -- and no, it isn't to prevent users from looking like a doofus when snapping photos in public. ASUS apparently faced two options for a rear-facing camera: go cheap or go for quality. The company says it decided against sticking a lower-end camera at the back of the device because it would compromise the user experience. Adding a high-quality rear camera, on the other hand, would increase costs too much, so that proposition was nixed as well. The good news is that apps such as Instagram are finding ways to make things work with just the Nexus 7's front-facing camera.

Wi-Fi Media lets your Nexus 7 play movies on any screen via HTC's Media Link HD (hands-on video) -- Engadget

Quote:
We're rather big fans of the Nexus 7 here at Engadget HQ -- it's just hard not to like a $200 tablet with a Tegra 3 SoC and 7-inch glass-bonded IPS display running pure Jelly Bean. Of the few missing features, there's one we're bemoaning more than the lack of rear camera, and that's the absence of any kind of HDMI or MHL video output. So far, watching movies with the Nexus 7's been relegated to using a Nexus Q and streaming content from Google Play or YouTube.

Enter Wi-Fi Media, an app available for free on Google Play that lets most Android devices like the Nexus 7 play movies, music and stills on any screen via any Cavium PureVu-compatible streamer, such as HTC's $90 Media Link HD. We tested Wi-Fi Media with our Nexus 7 and Media Link HD and found it to work pretty much as advertised except for some caveats. First the app doesn't mirror your screen -- you're limited to playing content stored on the tablet or on the network via DLNA, which means no YouTube, Netflix or games. Second, the app doesn't handle some common file types -- like AVI, for example.

While it supports watching movies, listening to music and looking at pictures, keep in mind that Wi-Fi Media is not a particularly polished app. In addition to playing local and remote DLNA content, you're able to login to Facebook and Picasa and stream images directly from these accounts, but that's pretty much it in terms of functionality. There's also no way to configure the Media Link HD, so you'll need a sanctioned HTC handset to setup the multimedia streamer before using it with a Nexus 7. Want to know more? Peek at our screenshot gallery below and hit the break for our hands-on video.
Supposedly there eventually will be a desktop dock that the Nexus 7 can sit in that has HDMI output.

I ordered the case last week and it supposedly shipped last Friday but the wonderful US Postal Service still doesn't have any tracking info except that the "Electronic Shipping Info Received" was dated for Friday. I got it through Amazon and they say that it is suppose to arrive by this Thursday.

My Nexus 7 showed up yesterday, and I've used it on and off since then. Overall, I'm incredibly impressed with it. The performance and quality are on par with my iPad. It's much more impressive than the Kindle Fire, and a nice alternative to the larger tablets.

For some tasks, the size is definitely better. It fits comfortably in one hand and is especially nice for reading (the iPad seems a bit big as an ereader except for magazines, where I think the 7" screen size falls short).

Jellybean is very smooth and easy to use, and this is from a complete Android novice. Already, I love the fact that I could replace the keyboard with one that offers the ability to add shortcuts and to be able to type numbers and symbols without having to switch to another keyboard, as my passwords contain combinations of all three in different sequences which are a pain to type on an onscreen keyboard usually.

Google definitely got it right with this device. I love everything about it, especially how light and thin it is. Not enough to ditch my iPad totally, which I prefer for video and some other things, but most of the apps I use are also available on Android. I only expected to use the tablet for development, but I can see it replacing my iPad in some situations.

PS - I also tested the Android app I am working on, and although it was a pain in the ass at first to get it configured, I was really excited to see it actually running on the tablet.

Magazines that came with the Nexus 7 and that can be bought through the Google Play store can be viewed in text mode which includes pictures that are in the article. It's similar to the Nook apps ArticleView. All you have to do is touch the article and the menu bar pops down and just touch the "View Text." In some cases if there is more than one article on a page it'll give you a menu with the title of each article.

P.S. You can make the Home Screen go into Landscape mode with the help of a $3.00 app.

I sent a response to i-Blason through Amazon yesterday about my case. I got a response today and they said that they had an unexpected shipping delay with their overseas supplier. They said that it was shipped out today.

Unlike the Nexus 6, this one won't commit bloody mutiny, jump a ship to earth, and seek it's creator. The previous models lifespan has also been extended.

However the Nexus 7 DOES have issues remembering exactly what it is.... so be careful.

I've got one!

I should have a full Second Life Viewer with StarLight skin for it working in .... 10 years.

I am not a tablet lover (sorry but the keyboard is too slow to use) but the 8Mb version is so cheap even in the UK and you can use it as a GPS, and it is good as an emergency portable SL link, and it is small and light enough to take anywhere in a small bag (even my beloved HP311 netbook can't claim that), and you can use Facebook without screwing up your eyes (sorry SLers - guess I swore) as long as you can find a wi-fi hotspot....

Just waiting for my case to arrive now.

I see that the funny little sphere thing that was announced at the same time has been withdrawn and has gone back to the drawing board...but if you pre-ordered one, you're getting one for free. Lucky gets!

This is an excellent machine.

However, the lack of up-to-date Flash support is the one fly in the ointment. No BBC iPlayer.
