I particularly enjoyed this read.

The episode is what you would get if you dropped some creationist propaganda, Erich von Däniken’s Chariots of the Gods and stock footage from Jurassic Fight Club into a blender. What results is a slimy and incomprehensible mixture of idle speculation and outright fabrications which pit the enthusiastic “ancient alien theorists,” as the narrator generously calls them, against “mainstream science.” I would say “You can’t make this stuff up,” but I have a feeling that that is exactly what most of the show’s personalities were doing.

I found the Chariots of the Gods vaguely amusing when I read it back in the 70s. I've been hearing this for almost thirty some years, and am not amused anymore-especially when they put shows about it on the "History" channel.

What always pissed me off about shows like this is the unspoken assertion that in the past, (dark-skinned) people were too dumb to come up with ingenious solutions and build something like the pyramids all by themselves.

The best approach I have seen to how the Pyramids were built is when an *engineer* rather than an *archeologist* worked on it. He went to a quarry in Egypt, where they still were using hand methods at that time, and simply asked the quarrymen how they would do it given only copper tools to work with. He got some simple and straightforward answers. A lot of them had to do with leverage. The shadouf has been known from ancient times as a device to lift water. Applied to raising stones in a growing pyramid it gets around having to build ramps:

But like the news today, almost every network (excepting PBS and NatGeo) have turned towards entertainment at the cost of actually informing people.
