My Mood: SL Join Date: 07/03/2004 Client: LL 3.x XBOX Leaderboard: 16th | As a parent of a nonverbal child with autism, these products are becoming a must have accessory. My child is 6, mostly nonverbal and would wander if given the half the chance. I've had to lock my house down like fort knox (multiple types of locks on doors, security system, room monitors, window protections and now we have even had to lock him in his room at night). I am thankful that there are more choices becoming available for caregivers of those with autism/alzheimer/dementia/etc. Unfortunately it wouldn't help my kiddo with sensory issues who frequently has little to no clothing on. There is also bracelets, temp tattoos, tags etc. Couple great options and info available for those in need: ID TAGS FOR SHOES - Shoe Safety ID Products - at MyPreciousKid.com AWAARE Project Lifesaver International |

Business: Not Too Shanty | As someone who watched my grandfather and grandmother battle for the last 10+ years with his life with Alzheimer's, wandering off at least twice that I can remember, I think this is a great idea. It would have saved everyone a lot of worry and headaches I'd like to see them eventually be able to put the tracking device in something else besides a pair of shoes, such as a watch, necklace, hearing aid etc. It doesn't work too well if they pick up the wrong pair of shoes or go out in their slippers. Most people always wear their watch though. That's a habit even Alzheimer's would have a problem erasing Regardless, it's a great step in the right direction and would help to put a families minds at ease |

My Mood: | There have been a few cases here where elderly people have wandered off during the witer, only to be found days later, frozen. These would be a great help, though some would take the shoes off... |

Business: Black Operations Client: Singularity | Yeah, when you hear nurses discussing Alzheimer's patients, you can almost hear the capital "W" when they way "wandering" because it's a very common behavior for these patients. This sounds like it would be especially useful for assisted living facilities, where you often have patients in the early stages of Alzheimer's and other dementias, who are mobile and generally capable of handling some activities of daily living. Those people are very likely to wander, and those facilities don't have the staff required to do full manhunts every time that happens. I could imagine having all the shoes (or other clothing items) tied into a central computer in an office, for example.
