I wasn't suggesting he wasn't! They're still awesome images - I'm just pointing out that he has used several images at several exposure settings and put them together to create what we see here.

I'd call them hyper-reality photos.

HDR (High Dynamic Range) photos can be cool, can be overdone, but I certainly think it's a valid form of photography and I sometimes use it myself, although normally I work from a single RAW file and re-expose it 3 or 5 times using Adobe RAW.

Here's one I made earlier, which is slightly overdone and not a patch on the volcano photographer's work

Fruit and vegetables including lettuce, grapes, spring onions and asparagus may be missing from many supermarket shelves next week and firms specialising in flying in produce from overseas are also warning of higher prices.

The transport giant Norbert Dentressangle said activity at its perishable air freight handling centre at Heathrow, the UK's largest, was at a standstill.

The result will be a three-day shortfall in the supply of products including prepacked fruit salads and flowers.

It said that while there are enough products on shelves and in warehouses to see stores through the weekend, supermarkets will be 'severely impacted' next week.
Surely not. Most food products come by boat or rail, very little by air. Sounds to me like they are being very vague about the specific products that are actually affected, just to make a scary story out of nothing. Or artificially hoist prices.

Asparagus shortages? I hope the middle classes don't riot!

This is amazing - now the ban on aircraft is extended to Monday, 7pm - can we make it to a week?
I have a friend in China who should be returning around now... he's too stupid to understand diversions or anything, so I really wonder what's going to happen with him.

Oh, and we have stupid headlines like "The pressure is on Gordon Brown to get airlines flying again", like he can blow away the ash (ok, so he IS full of hot air which may help)

An interesting data visualisation showing the "Rebooting" of European Air Travel
(I understand that there was no data for Central France and the Atlantic so they remain quiet) 6 days of flights displayed in a minute
