Would you pay $30 a month to watch tv on iTunes?

Apple is in talks with television networks to offer a service where tv shows would be available to watch through iTunes for a flat rate of $30 a month, instead of buying them individually.

I don't watch TV anyway.

Well, I occasionally use Hulu or SyFy to catch up on Warehouse 13. But not $30 a month worth.

almost all of the major networks provide their content free, and streaming. I also think that comcast has begun providing cable-network television shows on fancast.com or something like that?

so... 30$ for what exactly?

If the content were streamed in high-def, was conveniently available on my television, and all of the major networks and popular shows were available - yes, I would definitely consider it. $30 is less than my monthly premium cable TV bill - so if I could cancel that it would be a net savings. I am already an Apple TV user and love the service. I actually do not watch much TV myself - most of what I do watch is on-demand either through Apple or Boxee. But if the shows that my family enjoys were all available for one low monthly fee, I could easily see myself dropping my cable. Convenience is a huge factor for me.

Way too expensive!

Netflix offers a similar service for $9.99. Granted their selection of TV shows is not as good as iTunes, but its a deal breaker. $30 is pushing the cost of cable TV.

To make it worth the cost I would have to watch 15 shows. I can see doing that for a month or two as I have a list of TV I want to wach eventually (Mad Men and Big Love for example). But once I run out of must see shows, I'd probably cancel the service.

If the price were similar to a RPG - $15 a month - it would be more tempting to subscribe so it was always on.

$30 is too much with all the free and almost free services out there.

tv-video.net is another good one to check out -- i think i get 100 points for $10 via paypal and shows cost 1 or 2 points per episode, and they have almost everything and a free section that changes about twice a month. No commercials, woooot, and pause and rewind. me likey.

What if it included music videos you could play just the audio track from?

If it included original programming from networks like HBO, Starz, and Showtime...absolutely. I would be very tempted to cancel my cable TV and go in this direction instead.

Like Pol said it would have to include premium channels and I seriously doubt it would. I like watching tv on my big screen, I like recording two channels at once and watching late night after my kids are asleep, and I like having a large selection of channels. If it could compete with cable and offer all the options I love at a cheaper cost I'd think about it. If it's like Hulu then fuck no. I watch that for free on the rare occasion I forget to dvr a series I'm really hooked on.
