Question: If someone in the future can travel back to prevent major catastrophes, why hasn't anyone eliminated Hitler in 1923?

Looks just like two scientists discussing the possibility of a very exotic scenario, using layman terms to describe it to the general public.

Surely there is only one timeline, and any time travelers that have travelled to a time in our past will already have made their mark on the timeline, and we would already have the effects of their actions in our history.

Russia would've taken over the world in the 50's, and that would have been worse.

Or at least pretended his watercolors were good?
Who was the art professor that sent him on his way, in Vienna?
Worst criminal ever.

I don't think it's that cut and dried. Some theoreticians have speculated that time is like a bowl of spaghetti - each strand the product of an infinite number of variables leading to alternate outcomes.

Using that idea, there are probably other timelines where Hitler either never existed, failed before taking power, or even succeeded in winning WW2 (had America not won its independence 200 years prior, for example.)

The Butterfly Effect would have us believe that the variables which determine history can be altered by very subtle, unforeseen interferences.

On the other hand, the idea that there are a billion alternate Cindys wandering around in other dimensions kinda makes me wonder if I'm the Main or the Alt?

But even then, the 'me' here now would have it's own single spaghetti strand timeline? Where any attempts to change the history as I know it would already be history for me and already be effective in my present (present as in the alternate outcome in which this version of me exists).
