NASA and ESA prioritise outer planet missions

Quote:
At a meeting in Washington last week, NASA and ESA officials decided to first pursue a mission to study Jupiter and its four largest moons, and plan for another mission to visit Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, and Enceladus.

I'm so excited! Shame they won't arrive for another 17 years

I think space science and space exploration should be done via international collaboration, so it's great to see ESA and NASA working together on these flagship missions.

Ever wish you were born a few decades later?

It sucks that I'll be dead when Richard Branson JnrJnrJnr launches his Exoplanet Shuttle service.

I'm banking on my great great great great grandchildren coming to collect me in their time machine so that I'm able to go on one of those Galilean Moon Cruises.

Fuckers best turn up

We need to build a colony on Titan, for sure. But Enceladus is an absolutely fascinating place.

Titan has no magnetic field and sometimes orbits outside Saturn's magnetosphere. It is therefore directly exposed to the solar wind. This may ionize and carry away some molecules from the top of the atmosphere. It may also drive some of Titan's peculiar chemistry.

At the surface, Titan's temperature is about 94 K (-290 F). At this temperature water ice does not sublimate and thus there is little water vapor in the atmosphere. Nevertheless, there appears to be a lot of chemistry going on; the end result seems to be a lot like a very thick smog.
I'd rather just move to canada.

We're not allowed on Europa.
The monolith told us so.

Don't be to hasty, here. Scientists are unravelling the secrets of aging (copy errors in the DNA code of new cells) and I figure by the time I'm 70 or so, they'll extend my warranty.

Of course, then I'll probably get hit by a bus.
