CalTech Physics/Cosmology Professor to give talk in SecondLife

Sean Carroll is a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Physics at the California Institute of Technology. His research interests include theoretical aspects of cosmology, field theory, and gravitation.

He will be giving a talk in SecondLife on Saturday, Nov 8th at 10am SL time.

For more information, see his blog post here:

And here is the SLURL:

Thought this might interest a few people here. If you go, please be respectful and expect a decent number of SL newbies from the scientific community.

For those of you who don't know, Prospero Linden was a former Astronomy professor, which is part of how this got set up.

He makes a presentation every month - in his last presentation I think he mentioned that he was changing that to bimonthly. For more info, check out:

Also, Nature often host presentations in SL (which I also go to!), check out the following url for more info:

Home : Elucian Islands

I won't be at tomorrow's event, as I am going to a guy fawkes event!

I should add that Dr Knop's presentations are pretty much entry level, and so are ideal for those who have studied very little or nothing of the subject. Those who have studied Physics/Astronomy may find it a little slow going, but it's still worth going to meet up with people who have similar interests.

Ooooh, the Nature stuff sounds especially interesting. Didn't know that the foremost scientific journal in the world had an SL presence.

I definitely need to get out of the combat sims more.
