SL Join Date: 05/20/2003 | I can't buy into this thing giving people superhuman strength. It reminds me of the Six Million Dollar Man. Lee Majors could lift the rear end of a car with one arm, but somehow that bionic arm never tore away from his flesh and blood shoulder in the process. It seems to me that this "cybersuit" could help people with mobility issues to walk, but I doubt its strong enough to do anything remotely "superhuman". If it was, it would probably weigh at least a ton. |

My Mood: | That's the advantage of full exoskeletons. Thex support their weight an stress completely by themselves, not putting most of it on the human body. Granted, they also look a leeeettle more stable than the futuristic-styled one at the top of the thread. But, yes, a cybernetic arm attached to a plain human body wouldn't give the strength to lift a car, as there's more to carlifting than just the arm's muscles. Mostly it'd be the back doing a good load of work. |

My Mood: | There has been a similar research project at the UC Berkeley a few years ago. ![]() "The Berkeley Lower Extremity Exoskeleton (BLEEX), as it's officially called, consists of mechanical metal leg braces that are connected rigidly to the user at the feet, and, in order to prevent abrasion, more compliantly elsewhere. The device includes a power unit and a backpack-like frame used to carry a large load." 03.03.2004 - UC Berkeley Researchers Developing Robotic Exoskeleton that can Enhance Human Strength and Endurance I couldn't find any new information that was released after 2004. I wonder if they're still working on this. Anyway, no thread about cybernetic exoskeletons is complete without a reference to "Aliens". ![]() "Get away from her, you BITCH!"

My Mood: | I like the way the suit reacts to the signals to your muscles before your muscles react clever stuffOn the projects page listing this, they have another project with is labelled "Classified. Sorry!" called "Humanoid Control Project" ![]() We're doomed! But at least the early ones will be easy to detect due to the rubber skin. |

Heaven, to keep its beauty,
cast them out, but even Hell
itself would not receive them
for fear the wicked there
might glory over them.
