NASA Astronaut claims we have made contact with Aliens/UFO's

Quote:
Aliens have contacted humans several times but governments have hidden the truth for 60 years, the sixth man to walk on the moon has claimed.
Apollo 14 astronaut Dr Edgar Mitchell, said he was aware of many UFO visits to Earth during his career with NASA but each one was covered up.
Dr Mitchell, who has a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautical engineering and a Doctor of Science degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics claimed Roswell was real and similar alien visits continue to be investigated.

So NASA astronaut says "we went to the moon" = ok
NASA astronaut says "we have proof of aliens" = insane

Personally, I believe both NASA astronaut statements could be valid but they seem to be utterly truthworthy people when they are saying what people want to hear and insane when they aren't.

Do you think he may just be gearing up for a book/autobigraphy before he dies then?

Could be....when I first saw this, I thought "cool" but then wondered why he waited so long.

Could also be that he knows he has lived a full life and leaking the info now will just bring on a *cough* "accident" *cough* while driving his car. "Reports were that a black sedan with tinted windows and govt. plates was seen speeding from the scene"

I really don't see why a man so dam respected would destroy his reputation on a lie like that.. it makes no sense to me.. no matter how true his claims, the sorry truth is most people wouldn't accept it if they where shown it... for religious reasons, or because the arrogance bread into them just doesn't want to know about beings with better brains and more civilised than us.

I think the story is possible, but sadly without solid proof these days, it is nothing more than a story, true or not.

Many religious beliefs are a joke, I don't see why people would want to limit themselves to something that revolves around the insignificant speck in the universe that is our world. The universe is incredibly large, anyone who thinks Earth is the only place with life must have a very dim view. However, due to the sheer size, it is very unlikely that any intelligent life out there will actually make contact with each other, but who knows.

Interesting read anyway.

The thing is, we may have already been given proof but it has been masked with the "hoax" label, and then stuffed away in a cabinet.

Whenever I hear someone start talking about the bible and creation on me, I ask them to explain dinosaur bones...I am still waiting for that one. I usually just get the scoffing look and the "walk away". If there are any devout Christians here, please fill me in on how dinosaur bones came to be.

The devil put them there to sow doubt in the mind of men,

No.. I don't believe that, but I heard that one a few times in the religion chatrooms in Yahoo from fundies.

Could that be because MOST of the UFO claims really are hoaxes? The sane UFOlogists will be the first to admit to you that their field of study is bullet-ridden with charlatans and hucksters. They realize why people point and laugh. It's deserved.

And in the UFO field, we have no equivalent of dinosaur bones. Show me the bones and it'll be a lot easier to convince me.

Here's an interesting thought for you all. And I'm very reluctant to trot this out because it rubs against everything I hold to in terms of science and evidence. But it's propounded by a man I respect a great deal - Jacques Vallee.

Jacques Vallee Discusses UFO Control System

Quote:
Vallee, who holds a master's degree in astrophysics and a Ph.D. in computer science from Northwestern University, was an early scientific proponent of the theory that UFOs are extraterrestrial spaceships. His first book, Anatomy of a Phenomenon (Henry Regnery, 1965), argued eloquently that "through UFO activity … the contours of an amazingly complex intelligent life beyond the earth can already be discerned." In Challenge to Science - The UFO Enigma (Regnery, 1966) he and Janine Vallee (who is a psychologist by training, with a master's degree from the University of Paris) urged the scientific community to consider the UFO evidence in this light.

But by 1969, when he published Passport to Magonia (Regnery), Vallee's assessment of the UFO phenomenon had undergone a significant shift. Much to the consternation of the "scientific ufologists" who had seen him as one of their champions, Vallee now seemed to be backing away from the extraterrestrial hypotheses and advancing the radical view that UFOs are paranormal in nature and a modern space age manifestation of a phenomenon which assumes different guises in different historical contexts.
It's an interesting thought, but I keep going back to Arthur Clarke's quote from long, long ago: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". I would add, "or the paranormal".

Hate to derail...but have you seen Creation Museum - Creation, Evolution, Science, Dinosaurs, Family, Christian Worldview - Creation Museum?

Apparently not the catholic church now. I think it's odd they released this statement recently. Do they know of some new news that we don't?

Pope's astronomer insists alien life 'would be part of God's creation' - Europe, World - The Independent

Quote:
The Vatican's official newspaper has endorsed the possibility that the universe could contain intelligent life beyond Earth, while insisting that aliens would be "our brothers" and "children of God" as much as human beings are.

I wonder if the Aliens are as narrow minded as some humans. It amzaes me that the Vatican finally comes out with a endorsement of sorts, some 400 years plus since they tortured then burnt one of the first individuals to suggest that we are not alone out there. Maybe they are hiding something we should know.

Well done on the astronaut - he has been out there and he has been briefed beofre being out there.

I'm sorry, but old fashioned physics sets the limit at just below c for traditional forms of travel. Plus, why would anyone want to observe this planet except for the more intelligent creatures like the Dolphin?

Muka, I hope you're being funny.

Those pics are from what I call "UFO whacko" websites.

Alien and UFO Pictures - A collection of real alien pictures and real UFO photos collected from around the world.

The Biggest Secret Forum - Photo album

UFO Casebook, UFO Case files, UFO Photos, UFO Video, Aliens, UFO News, Magazine

To my knowledge, not a single bit of "UFO evidence" has ever been vetted by professional peer review. And before you tell me that someone who tried to publish such a thing would be laughed out of the profession, remember that whoever actually did produce tangible, provable evidence would become instantly rich and famous.

It'd be the discovery of the millenium. It'd make "microbes from Mars" look like chickenfeed.

FWIW, I agree with the Pope to a point - there probably IS intelligent life out there somewhere. And he's right that it would likely have arisen through the same processes human life did. Whether or not one wants to assign that to God is a religious question, but biologically speaking I'd say the odds were overwhelming that it's happened and is still happening. Note, however, that the Pope did not say "UFOs have landed". Not publicly anyway.
