Including those put off by the 'no adult content' policy? Or would that make up the remaining 4th?

Yeah; at the most basic level access should be free - if that's not the case then they've dropped a bollock; I'm also generally sceptical about Sansar because, well, that's just how I am! But the free access thing aside I think they've got the business model spot on: charging the Earth for, well, virtual earth was always going to limit growth.

The hosting/land should be done at cost, pretty much, to ensure as many people as possible can engage with the world at a level that is only possible when they have their own little part of it to call their own. LL can then focus on making money by charging taxes on transactions between residents so that those who are able to pay more, do. This really shouldn't upset those that make a good living from content creation: I reckon the inevitable increase in size of the customer base would more than compensate for an increase in taxes needed to be paid.

It looks Sansar will be a game engine. I'm guessing selling content for said game engine will be a major income for some users. Forget about Land prices this is not a replacement for SL

Are you suggesting that regular residents won't be able to 'own' land? If that's the case then I agree: they're not really comparable and, personally, I doubt I would be interested in quite the same way.

My friend gave me this link about Sansar. It has a video clip in the article and it seems to be that Sansar will be more about VR, as majority of people were saying. The graphics are great, but it seems rather boring. https://singularityhub.com/2017/06/2...life-left-off/

I'll just tack this on here as I don't think it needs a separate thread.

Anyone else get this email?

Congratulations! You’ve been selected to be among the first to create social VR experiences with Sansar.

If you encounter any difficulties, let us know at REDACTED and our team will help you get going.
You’ll get early access to Sansar and lots of information that we’re not yet ready to share with everyone. You will be asked to agree to an NDA, and as a Creator Preview participant, you’ll need to keep everything secret - i.e. no tweeting screenshots, sharing videos, etc. from Sansar.
The future of VR begins now, with you. Your creativity, ideas, and feedback will help to shape Sansar’s development, and we’re excited to have you on board.
We can't wait to see what you'll create!
- The Sansar Team

I've not accepted yet so not subject to NDA but about to be.

I got it yesterday and wanted to create an account now but... I'm confused lol. It says to write my email, my full name and date of birth. And I have nooooo idea should I write my desired name just like when I was creating SL account or I should go with my RL name? Is this a stupid question?

It is not a stupid question. But not anything anyone here can answer. Everyone here is either not in, or in but under an NDA.

I can offer an educated guess (I've not been offered Sansar early access):

The information they want is 'real life', all the way - RL name, RL birthdate.

This is all 'meatspace' information, just as you would submit when creating an Amazon Prime account, PayPal account, etc.

It establishes your bone-fides with the Lab, defines the identity of your 'side' of any associated NDA, ensures that you're an adult 'of age' to be able to sign a contract, assures your accountability, etc.

All of the above is just my take on things, but experience in similar circumstances tells me that that's what's up.

A reminder that you are asked your real life name when signing up for an SL account, too.

So it's nothing out of the ordinary.

I wondered too, but initially signed up with my RL name, and used an avatar name during the process of choosing/tweaking an avatar body. Once inworld only the avatar name shows up.

It is my understanding Sansar is eye candy and full of experiences. It does not apeal to me at all.

From what I have seen so far in LL-published videos, Sansar will be awesome for the kind of people that would do great things with a LEA sim.

...not so much for the regular SL crowd that just wants a place to hang out with pretty avatars.

It's that big group of sims that are all art. You apply with some examples of work and they give you a sim for free.

Over at slinfo.de, Uli Jansma posted an email by the Sansar team: Opening Day Is Coming |
Quote:
Opening Day Is Coming
Very soon, Sansar will be open to the public as a creator beta - you’ll be able to share your creations with whomever you like, and anyone will be able to sign up and get started creating, without requiring an invitation. So, now is a great time to get your creations ready for their public debut.

Join Our Pile-On
The Sansar team is looking to have as many people as possible login at once this week to help us load-test the system. Please help us by logging in to Sansar at 11am PT on Wednesdsay, July 26th. You can do whatever you like - explore experiences in the Atlas, work on your own creations, or even just hang out in a spot you like.
So, obviously the Open Beta starts today (Wednesday 26th).

I think that is a misread of what it is saying. The two are not related - I think they want to have existing users help do a load test before opening it up.

It seemed time for some retrospect. The first article SLU mentions on Sansar is a post Cris made from April 2015. It bills it as the next SL. The "clear priorities" mentioned are

Quote:
Which is why the next version of Second Life has a few clear priorities, Altberg says:

Make it easier for people to find cool, relevant stuff.
Make it possible for more people to attend and experience that cool stuff (Duran Duran did a free concert in Second Life once, but only 50 people could fit in the room for technical reasons).
Make it possible for people to make money in new ways from their stuff (like letting people who run virtual classrooms rent out the technology to other universities).

Well, my ASUS gaming laptop arrived (refurb, I'm cheap) and...

Well, I was able to justify a semi-gaming laptop, it just arrived, completely virgin... all I've installed on it is Chrome, Firefox, and Firestorm.

And...
