My Mood: SL Join Date: October 2004 Blog Entries: 1 | Iyetra: episodic fiction series Okay, so, I've been struggling to be quiet about this so far but it's gotten far enough along that I can speak about it and make an announcement. In a bit over a month or so I'm going to release my first piece of published fiction! Iyetra is a sci-fi/fantasy series with an episodic slant. Each "book" will be a novella, like a television episode. They're all set in the same universe, but the pieces are self-contained have their own particular plots. Taken together they handle a larger overall plot arc, but on their own each book is its own piece of fiction. I will be releasing a new one approximately every two to three months, with the first one coming out in August 2010. It's going to be available to read free on the website, but it will also be published to various ebook stores for reading on the Kindle or iPad (and a bunch of other devices.) Each ebook version will be about $5 a pop. The website itself is here: iyetra.com It's still a bit boilerplate at the moment until the first book comes out, but I'm really excited about it. I am also looking for a couple of people who would be interested in looking at a draft of the book coming out in August to help me proofread it and give their opinions. I had asked for this before, but that was for a larger fiction project that I've decided to put on hold for now while I work on this. If anyone's interested send me a PM, since I want to give out the draft at the beginning of July. |

My Mood: SL Join Date: October 2004 Blog Entries: 1 | An update! I got slightly behind schedule dealing with wisdom tooth pain (codeine is not conducive to writing) but I've finally got my end-draft complete and in the hands of the editors. It's all downhill from here! |

I'm still at the mercy of the various distribution sites for whenever they get around to update their stores, but it's been submitted (ahead of schedule!) and is up for purchase online right now for those inclined if you can't wait for it to show up on the Kindle/iPad/etc stores directly. | Congrats Joshua I am considering buying a Kindle just to read your book. You just have to help me persuade Carth that I will use it and not leave it to the mercy of the gadget drawer of doom!

My Mood: SL Join Date: October 2004 Blog Entries: 1 | I've been using the hell out of my iPad as a reading device through the Kindle store app they have there; in the past month I've probably bought $300 worth of eBooks. Adam was looking over my shoulder and getting a bit jealous, although he didn't necessarily want an iPad specifically. I bought him a Kindle as a surprise a week ago and since then he's had it on him at all times. The screen really surprised me. It's got some usability issues (the UI is not really very intuitive), but once you're reading it is just like looking at a sheet of paper. We linked his Kindle up to my Amazon account which lets him download the books I was reading on my iPad to his Kindle as well, so we don't have to purchase them multiple times. It works out because we're reading them on different devices, since I don't need a Kindle of my own. Plus they've just announced the cheaper version in sexy graphite which is coming out towards the end of August. I wouldn't suggest getting one just for my book (although I appreciate the flattery!) but I suspect if you're a big reader you'll find a lot of use from it. Adam loves his. |

| Carth has come home for lunch and just preordered it for me on Amazon UK. Ł109 for the non 3g version which is fine for me seeing as I never go out and when I do I am usually in range of wireless networks anyway. I don't even have cause to use the i-phone on 3g (except of course for calls) so it is silly paying the extra for a feature I won't use. 27th of August it ships in the UK. Now I am excited! |

My Mood: SL Join Date: October 2004 Blog Entries: 1 | Hooray! I think you'll enjoy it, the number of books on the Kindle store still has a way to go, but it's getting there. I'd say 75% of the books I wanted to buy had digital versions available and the ones that were missing were older Asimov/Arthur C. Clarke sci-fi and stuff like that. However, please pass the link on to people you think would be interested! I'm counting on SLU to make me famous. |

My Mood: SL Join Date: October 2004 Blog Entries: 1 | Thanks a lot, I hope you like it. It's taken up the majority of my time for the past month so I'm really happy to get it out the door. It should show up on Amazon by the end of the week, I'm told. The Kindle was what I wanted to target the most so I'm happy about how fast and easy it's been working with their platform. Apple, predictably, has been the most stressful to deal with. But! It's out, and I have a better understanding of what to do for the next one. |

| Musical Alchemist ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Joshua, I noticed the book in your signature this morning and immediately ordered it on my iPad. This afternoon I sat in my big comfy chair with a (couple of) glasses of wine and read it straight through! I haven't read any science fiction in years, so this was a real treat. I thought the story was compelling, the characters interesting, and I love that you created a framework upon which to build more episodes. I won't say more because I don't want to spoil the plot for anybody else. But I will say that the various agenda's and distrust between the Imperium, the Magisterium, and the Advent should be a fertile playground for your creativity. Now, you did leave us proles hanging, as it's quite clear that there is more to come. Please don't make us wait too long for the next installment. Congratulations Joshua! |
