Holy crap, that's amazing.

I'd love to see pics of it in the shadow viewer, just for that extra burst of awesome. Not that it needs it.

Thanks Miriel

I've not tried the shadow viewer - I prefer to work in the regular release candidate viewer because I suspect that's what the majority of my potential customers use.

How to deal with lighting in SL is a bit of a pain. I love some of the prefabs that have beautifully baked lighting effects, but they only really look 'right' at one time of the SL day. Then there is the possibility that something like the shadow viewer will become the norm in the future. So with those in mind, I've gone for very subtle lighting effects.

If you want to take a look for yourself with the shadow viewer, Miriel, Just drop me an IM if I am online and I will port you over!

I think this is the wisest thing, particularly since (I assume) the shadow code will eventually make its way into the main viewer. Adds depth without making things look strange at the wrong time of day.

Haha I wish I could do magic! The effect is mostly due to the fact that it has been built at sea level, but there is a prim over the top, too. It's something I will make very clear in any ads I place, and I'm thinking of adding a second type of prim water for those unable to rez it at or near sea level.

I want come and see!!! The Pictures look fabulous. I think the bit that struck me was that view around around the pool, it just made me want to be there.

I think the secret of any great prefab / building in SL is to create an emotional reaction (good one!) to it so people want to immerse themselves in the space which grows to attachment to the design. I think you truly have achieved that with your build.

Congrats! (ps I almost dread to ask how much fun you had packing that into a rez box)..

Love this stuff when talented people pull something amazing out of their minds and into SL .

Update:

I've now got the build down to 2572 prims, and I think that is most likely to be the final count. Hopefully that is sufficiently low to be attractive to homestead sim owners and to those who own at least 1/4 of land in a regular full sim.

I'm getting excited now

Well unless someone knows of a way of fixing a major problem I now have, this building will not be ready for the weekend as I had hoped As I was packing the house up in the rezzer, I noticed that I couldn't set the permissions on one particular linked set of 212 prims. I wondered if I had one bad prim causing problems for the whole set, but I unlinked them to find that every single prim has the same problem:

Does anyone know how to fix this? Is this a known bug?

If not, I am going to have to rebuild this part of the house

Update:

Well I rebuilt the problem part of the house, and have since also had to deal with two other problems. Now, finally, I have the house packed up in a rezzer!!

'All' I have to do now is write the instructions, terms of use, adverts, etc - something I'm really not looking forward to

Oh, and I managed to get the final build down to 2554 prims

Well if this one sells, I will then start work on some smaller prefabs. I've already drawn up detailed plans for one which I'm guessing will be approx 1000-1200 prims, and have basic plans for two more which will be smaller still. I can't guarantee anything, but they will probably be in the 400-600 prim range.

There's already plenty of low-prim prefabs out there, and so I can't see myself dabbling in them. Well, not in the near future, at least.

I only have 937 prims

You are right, there are plenty of low-prim prefabs, but I like yours. Though I guess it looks so good (partly) because it is higher prim.

ZOMGBBQ I ACTUALLY FINISHED IT!!!ONEONEELEVENTYONE

It really is scary the amount of time I spent creating this, and it's hard to believe that it is actually done!

I'm so going to find a bottle of something suitably toxic.

Stunning work. I expect you'll go far in the prefab business. I haz jealous.

Practice on a few low-prim projects though, always a selling point

Of the many reasons I have to adore Quantum I think I maybe adore him most of all because he uses more prims in a build than even I and does not care As I understand it Q's thinking is that there are many builders out there doing low prim / prim concious builds and thus he is catering for a niche market that would rather have the detail than worry about prim count.

There are peeps out there who really don't care about prim count as long as they feel the prims were used effectively. Q's build really stands out for me as a triumph of detail, beauty and precision over mediocrity and compromise. Long may it continue
