Thread Title of the Week
Steampunk Skybox Project

I have been wanting to do a Steampunk build for quite some time and being bored this evening decided to get started.

65 Prims not counting the aircraft in the landing bay or the two prims of TP gadget.

Comments and opinions are most welcome.

If you want to see it in world here is the SLurl

Be warned that this IS in Zindra.

Ish pretty. Needs fine brass grid over the large curved window areas (I'm referring to the cylindrical glass, not the domes) on the upper level. Don't match the one in the hangar, this one should scream "style!"

Business: None as of _yet_... workin on it.
To me, steampunk is also about Victorian luxury, and *warm* colors; brushed copper, warm bronze, rich tones of burgundy, etc... The use of expensive, dark woods, velvet wall textures, rich patterned flooring... I really like the 'pod' nature of your design, the multiple levels are neato, but think if you darkened the decor, enriched it with deeper jewel tones...? Maybe some sort of 'gadgetty' looking bits? Weathervanes, telescopes, moving parts?

All great ideas. Here is what is looks like right now. I changed the ceiling texture and the window textures adding the crosshatching in the curved windows and the brass to the round windows. I have added a bit of furniture and some wall lights.

It may well be that this main room is just too big. I use TP to get from level to level but perhaps a spiral staircase in the center would be more steampunk and break up the space better.

Now where do I get a steampunk sculptie spiral stair?

Here is the new Steampunk Hot Tub

I like it already.

It doesn't have to be a spiral staircase, does it? You could have a conventional staircase that just went up via several small 'landings', turning 90 degrees at each on (that's a bit hard to explain...). I think you should be able to find suitable Victorian themed staircases for that. Maybe with some kind of wrought-iron railings for bannisters.

Added drapes

Taking far too much effort I found a few drapes to go between the main room and the corner rooms.

Any look better than another?

/me is dying of seeing so much osm.

Vote: lower set of curtains looks better and more natural, texture of middle one looks a bit overworked. Upper one lacks the screaming "luxury" that the lower one has.

My personal opinion on the drapes:

I think I like #3 the best, although #1 i not far behind. I keep going back and forth between the two. On first look, I like the tone and texture of #1, but #3 seems to fit your theme better with the pretty lines and details. That being said, keep in mind that I know very little about steampunk deco!

I find #2 has too much going on and the details seem a bit muddy.

Your build is coming along very nicely btw! Good job

Added the "stairs"

Until now I have been using TP to get from the main floor to the landing bay and back but TP really doesn't fit well with the Steampunk theme.

After looking at a bunch of options I am trying a spiral ramp. I have extended one of the cupolas down to the lower level, removed the floor and put in a ramp.

At the top...

At the bottom...

And two views from the outside...

For those that want a personal look. This is in Zindra though so you will need to be verified to get in.

Opinions eagerly sought.

Incoming!

One thing... the base of the tub seems a little off. I think it might work better round rather than square. It looks like it's just sitting on the tub, and no madboy or madgirl would dream of doing that to fine carpeting.
