They're meant to be beeches, and the reference images I used seemed to come from farther north. So... probably not.

Those are lovely Mirel. Please let me know when they're available.

They need a bit of work still. I need to rerender the winter branches because they came out too thin the first time (ugh), and add some scripting.

I'd also planned to do some other kinds of beeches (one of which is sort of done and one of which isn't), but I guess I can just release these on Xstreet when they're done.

Sorry, Ben, no SLURL. I had them rezzed on my sim for the picture, and then I took them down. If you catch me online, I can invite you over and rerez them, though.

Too thin is always bad for branches. They tend to vanish at any distance. Always default, as in everything Second Life, to a bit larger than expected.

Been meaning to pick up some prim trees, trying to find trees as low prim as possible while still looking nice. Might have to wait until these are ready. ^^

Damn. It's difficult finding good, quality Mediterranean trees.

Sorry, juro. It's something I may look to do later, but no guarantees. :/

In more general news, I've put together some excellent scripts to have the trees drop leaves. They really do look like leaves when they fall. I need to look up how to do SL machinima (shudder) so I can take a video, because I think they're beautiful and just saying "they look nice" doesn't really do them justice. Siyu's seen them; she'll vouch for me.

They use physics (which is why they look like actual leaves), but I've tried to keep their impact as light as possible. They're phantom, temp on rez, and scripted to die after contact with the ground or 30 seconds, whichever comes first. I filled my sim with 350+ of these things, all dropping leaves every few seconds, and they took up a bit over 2 ms of sim time. That's... not terrible, I think? Particularly for something that filled nearly half my sim. Not great, but not terrible; it won't kill an otherwise healthy sim. As a safeguard, I scripted the leaves to stop if the time dilation gets too bad. And I used a goto statement. Oh noes!

I also added some code so people could customize the leaf drop frequency.

Managed to free up even more space. Looking forward to using them for even more trees. Will they come with shadow prims?

Gah, sorry, this fell by the wayside.

Yeah, they will. Those aren't done yet, though.

As a necropost side-comment, I can't get that tree generation program to do anything but make horrible mutant cybertrees. Nothing looks good at all.

You have to import them into a 3D program, texture them, and render them. It'll give you the tree geometry -- or branch geometry, if you're just making those -- and that's it.
