Silverman frequently attacks me based on stereotypes he picks of the worst people who call themselves Christians. But if I poke fun at him, as an individual for his demonstrated arrogance, I am the bad person.

Your lolDavid and comment were, in my view, not appropriate because you attempted to take a discussion of atheist positioning and advertising to a direct personal attack on one guy. This thread is not about David Silverman or you, whoever you are.

AA's membership skews toward college-age and thus they are more extreme than your garden variety humanist. Personally, I think they waste too much time and money on showy battles over religious symbols, and not enough time doing the hard work of gaining for atheists the same status in U.S. society that believers enjoy. So, please do focus the attention of "worldwide Christians" on Silverman. He is kinda shiny.

David Silverman is the president of American Atheists, the public face of American Atheists, and the only person I have seen speak for American Atheists. The "in-your-face" (cute way of saying insulting) campaign gets his face on talk shows. Though this campaign is actually more toned down than the "it's just a myth" campaign. And though American Atheists may be on the right side of some litigation, that does not mean that Silverman (or the entire group, he is their president) spend a lot of time being jerks also.

I was speaking directly on the billboards, though I suppose I did not specifically address whether they were an effective campaign to convert people to atheism.

I think that's easily forgiven when you consider how demonized the entrenched religions have made atheism (in America, at least). Silverman didn't start the 'being a jerk' thing, he's just firing back. And -still- a lot more tactfully than many of his opponents.
