At least he's smart enough to cite a percentage that can actually win them an election..

It's funny. Since they've started really shooting off their mouths (Ryan and Romney both) almost all political talk from the rabid republicans in my friends list has stopped. Wonder why? LOL

Because even stupid knows F. A. I. L. when they smell it, and Ryan and Romney reek.

Pretty clear where that 30% comes from.

Actually, I don't want the "American Dream", because it sucks!

Working really hard to support kids, mortgage, student loans, SCREW THAT!

I work a job that pays the rent and gives me a lot of free time to do what I want. I'm debt free, and throw all the money I save into a retirement account. I don't seek promotions at work because it means more hours and more stress. No thanks!

I just love the way they through percentages around like they could actually present proof of them-especially that one. Prove it Ryan. Show me the statistics that show that as an accurate percentage number.

So what happened to the other 17% that Mittens said were shiftless leechers?

Well, see.. this video is actually older than Mitt's.... so actually, between the two, the shiftless leech ratio went up.

By the election, it will be a majority of shiftless leeches who don't believe in the American Dream who won't ever vote for Romney anyway....

...but I think we figured that out last year.

The reality is the American Dream is generally an illusion, has this so called dreamed actually changed with the times over hundreds of years or is it still stuck in the dark ages so to speak?

It also seems kinda hard to achieve when there's a fucked up health care system, welfare system, etc. not to mention areas with a lack of jobs and/or room for things like promotion. If the American Dream is merely working hard, having a comfortable amount of money and raising a family it's also got holes in it! Not everyone wants to raise a family, not even everyone wants to be in monogamous relationships and that's not some defect.

There are many people not just working hard but insane hours just to put food on the table and still can't afford insurance.

And there are people who can't work or find work who struggle just to get by on food stamps and/or end up homeless.

It seems to be time wake up from the so called American Dream!

I thought they were going the other way - so that by election day they would be saying "NONE of you are welfare wannabes. We think you're all awesome go getters helping to drive the Aryan I mean American Dream and totally never said anything about 47%. No, really, look at our track record on this subject! Some of our best friends are poor people!"

Totally understandable confusion really, its just the difference between "duck and cover" versus "slash and burn."

Uh, they do realize that group apparently is going to vote for them, they might not want to alienate another block of voters.

The problem seems to be many people will vote against their own self interest & still fail to recognize it!

Re: American Dream

Quote:
Several studies have been made comparing social mobility between developed countries. One such study (“Do Poor Children Become Poor Adults?") found that of nine developed countries, the United States and United Kingdom had the lowest intergenerational vertical social mobility with about half of the advantages of having a parent with a high income passed on to the next generation. The four countries with the lowest "intergenerational income elasticity", i.e. the highest social mobility, were Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Canada with less than 20% of advantages of having a high income parent passed on to their children. (see graph)

[...]

Along with the aforementioned “Do Poor Children Become Poor Adults?" study The Economist also stated that "evidence from social scientists suggests that American society is much `stickier` than most Americans assume. Some researchers claim that social mobility is actually declining." A German study corroborates these results. In spite of this low mobility Americans surveyed had the highest belief in meritocracy among 27 nations surveyed.

Oh no, the "American Dream" is alive and well... the problem is that it's still a dream, and not a reality.

It was one of the fairy tales we've fed our children, right along with "Happily ever after".

As I said to my dad last night, "Since the American Dream seems to have become "A house you don't own, a car you don't own, 2.4 kids who can't afford college without crippling debt and the inability to save anything for retirement," I think I'll pass."

So apparently I'm now a 99%, a 47% and a 30%. Mathematically speaking, I should be a 1% by the next election!
