| I haven't read the whole thread, but I just wanted to say that: I find 9/11 jokes extremely offensive, so I just stay away from sites where I think they're likely to be. My son mentioned something similar yesterday. |

| Go to 4Chan. They were swamped with 9/11 jokes yesterday. One of my closest friends lost her husband in the Word Trade Center. He was just there doing a presentation that day i.e. he wasn't there the day before. He wouldn't have been there the day after. He was there THAT day. And even after all this time, she tends to spend the week surrounding 9/11 passed out drunk on her living room floor. She's supposed to do the presentation at our book club this week (Thursday), and I am actually wondering if she is going to be sober enough... |

Laughter is still one of the best ways for many to cope with things, especially when you're one of the ones that actually has to cope WITH it... But mostly this is situational humor in context - the fireman walking around with a busted ass shopvac stopping you to ask if 'you've seen a fucking outlet anywhere?' - the absurdity makes you laugh and takes your mind off shit for a few seconds. And yet with all that.... I can't recall ever hearing single 9/11 joke... nothing along the lines of 'a rabbi a priest and a pastor walk into the WTC' kind of lameness anyways.

| I'm going to give the OP a serious reply. I think the difference might be, typically Americans don't joke about Hiroshima, typically we don't crack jokes about all the deaths in the Middle East. Typically we are a compassionate people that tries to value life of all cultures. |

Also, I think someone initially joked that it was not Al Qaeda, it was Gary Condit (you would have to go back to 2001 to get that one).
