Failed tea party rally leaves organization with $748,000 bill

I love the smell of schadenfreude in the morning...

Quote:
FRANKLIN Two years after the Franklin-based Tea Party Nation organization failed to lure tea party activists to a rally in Las Vegas, a judge is ordering the group to pay the bill for a slew of hotel rooms booked for the event.

Earlier versions of this story incorrectly stated that local attorney Judson Phillips, the founder of The for-profit corporation, was liable for the debt.

Tea Party Nation owes the Venetian Casino Resort more than $748,000, according to the ruling. The hotel alleged that the group reserved 1,637 room nights for a July 2010 event but then canceled the gathering just a few weeks prior.

A claim was filed against Tea Party Nation in July of last year.

The judgment, handed down last month by the Clark County District Court, represents the unpaid bill of $554,000 plus nearly two years of interest charges for another $194,300.

While I agree that the Tea Party should pay it's debts, after seeing
I would definitely like to see the place go bankrupt because of it's terrible pastiche of Venetian culture.
Why, oh why do they do this - Venice is a wonderful and magical place - go there instead!

If it makes you feel better, people don't go to the Venetian to find out what Venice is like, and they don't go to the New York, New York hotel to find out what New York city is like. At best, it probably makes them wonder what those places are really like.

I don't know... I stayed at Excalibur in Vegas. I gnawed on a chikin while watching jousting, watched some gyrating Thunder from Down Under and then porn in the room. Pretty sure that's what Camelot was.

On the whole, I'd rather most people did visit Vegas instead.
Some of the complaints I heard about the real Venice while working on cruise ships were "It's full of foreigners", "You can't get a decent burger anywhere", "The air con in the Doge's palace sucks" and my personal favourite "Everything's just so old".
Of course, all that pales into insignificance compared to the guy who was arrested for assaulting the ships bar tender who couldn't get the TV to show Monday Night Football at 8pm Central European Time or about 2am Tuesday morning EST!
And these were the passengers who were smart enough to drive themselves to their local airport, get on the right plane to Europe then find the right ship, hundreds cancelled their European cruises after the invasion of Iraq because they thought Spain, France and Italy were in the war zone.

The rally failed because they didn't serve "authentic Eye-tally-ean vittles", like Chef Boyardee SpaghettiOs.
