It looks like one of the gunmen may be dead.

(CNN) -- A shooting at Sikh temple in the Milwaukee suburb of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, on Sunday, left at least three people wounded and one gunman killed by a police officer, authorities said.

The officer was wounded but "returned fire, and that shooter was put down," said Bradley Wentlandt, the police chief in nearby Greenfield, who briefed reporters. Wentlandt called it "an ongoing and very fluid situation."

I used to work with a Sikh veterinarian. He had the coolest sense of humor, particularly about himself. I noticed while working with him that he'd wear a different colored turban every day, and it almost always matched his necktie. I finally asked him if he had a turban for every day of the year, and he said, "Yes I do! It comes in handy when I spill food on my tie. I can just pull some off my head and make a new tie."

No idea who would want to shoot anyone. People are just going nuts more and more. Either that, or we're just noticing it more and more because of our wonderful Internet.

There's a very large Sikh community in Canada, especially in the west, but also in the Toronto area. It's pretty small compared, in the Montreal area. Anyhow, I would think cutting your hair and not wearing a turban would make the man even more 'muslim' looking.

From the BBC report, it rather sounds to me as if there's more than one gunman, or might be; the situation appears to be continuing, even though the police think they shot an attacker, which suggests to me they fear there may be others to worry about: BBC News - 'Seven killed' in Wisconsin Sikh temple shooting

I nodded when I read this.

Then had a churn in my stomach when I realized how horrible a world we live in that there are likely some crazies or bigots out there who will think that's the only mistake in this tragedy. Comments that they "got the wrong ones" or something equally disgusting are likely going to spew over the internet at some point.

NBC---full Olympic coverage on all their channels continues as of this moment. They can't be bothered to switch away for seven dead in a mass shooting.

CBS--golf. ABC--kayaking. Again, can't be bothered to cover seven dead in a mass shooting.

FOX News---a very important panel having a very important discussion about how Chick-Fil-A is being persecuted by those awful liberals. Very, very important to keep talking about that!

CNN: one channel covering, with plenty of commercial breaks, of course. Commentators spending lots of time telling us that we can ALL agree that this is NOT the time to talk about gun control, and anyway, we can ALL agree that there's no point to gun control because If A Crazy Person Wants To Kill People They Will Manage To Find a Way.

WTF? Is this because the victims are...well, not brown people, exactly, but not Real Americans (i.e. Christians) anyway....is THAT why it's not news?!?!?

They also seem utterly amazed by the fact that this was a Sikh temple and not a mosque, as if that's the way it was supposed to happen, as if that would have been better.

Yes, that's exactly the kind of thing I was worried about. That we live in a world where it would "make sense" to some if it were a mosque.

Wounding and killing innocent people who are going about there business shouldn't "make sense" whether it be a movie theater or a place of worship.

I do understand the point some people might be trying to make, an attempt to find a motive in this, but it still makes me so sad.

I agree that it would be absolutely legitimate for news channels to refrain from showing anything the law enforcement people asked them not to show.

But that's very different from continuing your coverage of a golf game or kayaking without so much as a crawl on the bottom of the screen to say "seven people have just been shot dead and dozens more are wounded in Oak Creek, Wisconsin."

I'm sorry to say this, but if this exact thing had happened at a church instead of at a Sikh temple, all those channels would have had at least the crawl--and most probably, would have interrupted the kayaking (etc.) coverage to cover the Wisconsin story (while refraining from showing the equipment or deployment of forces, as requested.)
