My Mood:  SL Join Date: 2007 | *gulp* I'm going to see that later today with a family member (Doesn't open here til later today). I spent hours today watching the first two (I hadn't seen) so that I would be up to speed. What a horrible loss of life. Naturally, I have no idea of the shooters' motives other than to maybe kill as many as possible. Insane. Tragic. Sad. I don't want to make this a rant, but it pisses me off just how easily someone can go buy guns with which they can kill large groups of people. Edit: I have cousins in Aurora. The gunman was wearing a bullet proof vest, and threw some kind of smoke bomb into the theater before the shooting. Many initially thought the gunfire was sound from a theater next door. They do not think there was a second shooter at this time. |

My Mood: SL Join Date: 2007 | Now, MSNBC is reporting 14 lives lost, 10 at the theatre, and 4 en route to hospital. Many confused the noise for the movie. He apparently also set off tear gas or smoke bomb, which likely added to the confusion. After they caught him, he apparently also referred to potential bombs at his apartment building. Midnight showing, first day. Full theatre, no doubt. I'll never understand what possesses someone to do something like this. I'm currently awaiting information back from family members. Hopefully they are in bed unaware of this, until they awake. I can't even imagine what it would have been like for these people in the theatre or their families learning of it. This is a terrible event, and another horrific shooting for the people of Colorado to deal with. The images on the news immediately reminded me of the Columbine shooting. Different circumstances, same terrible outcome. |

| Now with less padding  | According to the reports I've read and seen this morning the shooter had a pistol (at least 2), a rifle, and a shotgun. If it was just a regular rifle it's not covered under the assault weapon ban. Actually none of the weapons are. This whole thing just makes my stomach turn. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. |

Business: ANOmations Client: Viewer 2 Blog Entries: 18 | Reading comments on some of the news sites, there are the pro-conceal and carry advocates who say if people had guns with them they could have stopped the shooter, and those saying that this is an example of why we need more gun control. I don't think either stance is the right one. In a darkened theater filled with smoke and people frantically running for their lives, additional gunfire from civilians with guns would have just endangered even more lives. Also, I don't think any amount of gun control law would prevent this type of tragedy. Gun control laws only affect those who follow the law in the first place. |
