"I see a reporter here," he said. "I just pray that you start writing about these issues. I just pray. Stop always writing about, 'Oh, the person couldn't get, you know, their food stamps or this or that.' You know, I saw something the other day -- it's like, another sob story, and I'm like, 'But what about what's happening to the country and the country as a whole?' That's going to devastate everybody."

During the Q&A portion of the event, Hovde expressed his support for lowering the corporate tax rate...
What a lovely man. I see he likes to 'pray' a lot, too.

It's time for the Republican party to change its name to something more befitting its current nature. I suggest The Sociopath Party.

It's really scary that they don't even feel the need to pretend to care anymore.

GOP candidate should perhaps wonder if these rampant stories of poor people might just have a common denominator.

Poor Marie Antoinette - major case of her words being taken out of context.

Besides, if the french farmers had been willing to switch from wheat [for flour to make bread and cake] to potatoes [like everyone everywhere else was doing - and which there had been a royal command to do ] which were hardier and better suited to changes in climate, they wouldn't have been starving... >.>

But, in this case, the problem is that when 99% of your population is either poor or knows they are just currently lucky enough not to be? - this is not the way to get votes [except a stupidly high number of people I know who are poor, teetering on losing their homes to the bank bad talk the 99% O.o]

"Out of context"? I thought that she never actually said it at all...

It's less about her, or what she said or didn't say, and more about the excesses of the aristocracy (of that period).

I have a suggestion for the dear Senate candidate...

... stop making people poor and you'll quit hearing about it.

I once said about the conceited ways of politicians in my country, that someone who never in their entire life had ...
  • been unemployed for less than a half year in a row, and/or...
  • worked in a low-wage job as their only means of income for less than a half year in a row, and/or...
  • had to live on welfare level for less than half a year in a row, and/or...
  • been a 2nd-class patient, and/or...
  • had to move into a smaller appartment because some governmental office told them so, and/or...
  • faced the challenges of a working single parent of at least one child, and/or...
  • had to pay for their studium all by themselves, and/or...
  • been in the situation of hardly being able fill the needs of their household, both financialy or time-related or (health)care-related, and/or...
  • faced other things that rich kids growing up wealthy hardly ever have to experience by themselves, ...
... should never get elected into any political position.

Though back then I said it about the politicians here in Germany, I'd rather extend that to ALL politicians all over the world.
