It is interesting, but the title is baffling.

Especially sad, is the use of religion to excuse the persecution of Gays.

My thoughts are it is an interesting article and an interesting concept for him to explore the way he did (telling his family, etc.).

kinda like commenting on the weather by saying, hey it's night?

you don't have to answer. I figured you posted it, you might have some opinion about the results, or insights picked up along it's course...

I already answered your question. However, do you mean do I have an opinion on;

Quote:
“This book is not a Christian bashing or gay bashing book. While I am honest about the negative things I experienced during my year involving both, I learned that with any group of people there are positives and negatives.”
(emphasis added)

That insight / result is no surprise so my opinion is "that isn't a surprise".

Or the general result that his family 'accepted' it but things were not the same as they were before? Also not a surprise and I don't have any positive nor negative comments on his family.

Or, perhaps you are trying to ask if I think it is good that he came away feeling that being gay is not 'evil' as he had previously thought? Indeed so.

everything after the first line. no trick to the question; methods are one thing but results and observations are another... "interesting" really didn't say much to the latter. I was genuinely curious.

in fact, I agree that his own insight and his families reaction weren't really a surprise, the whole "hate the sin" really ends up being "you are no longer one of us, but we'll try to re? convert you, and punish you until you do". I also think that despite the immersion, he probably had more confidence in starting than many do coming out, because of the foreknowledge that it was time limited.

I am actually impressed that he understood the closet that well though... it starts with a small fear (what if they find out?), but branches into so many different things... and becomes a paranoia about almost everything you do, and whether you fit the cliche of what isn't that thing you are pretending not to be... that despite the rejection and hatred, life is so much easier out that it is in.... there's no more constant nagging (will people think I'm ___ if I do this?). unfortunately that spectre never goes away completely for people out of the closet, because you still have to mind your surroundings or suffer the wrath of some of the public.
