Romney doesn't have an "appeal" as such. He's as charismatic as Richard Nixon, as sensitive to the "human touch" as Bender the robot on Futurama, as intellectual as Donald Trump, and totally tone deaf about many of the "rich boy" comments he blurts out when he goes off message / script.

But, he's white, male and about as privileged as the ultra rich come. He was simply the last one standing in the circular firing squad that eliminated the gaggle of political midgets that were his competition. He just had the most ammunition (read cash).

That Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, and most of the real GOP contenders chose to sit out this election should tell you what they think the chances actually are for a Republican victory in November. Giving Romney the nomination now gets him out of the way for 2016.

Once both sides get their convention "bump", which will be minor and fleeting, the real campaigning will begin. You can be sure that Obama will be linking Romney to George Bush at every opportunity, and the latest polls show Dubya is the most unpopular living former president.

Oh No!
Obama only raised $778 million for his 08 campaign!
How unfair!

Walker got into office with that sort of subtlety. Now that he gets to stay in office even though people know what he's after, then it makes it ok to not be subtle anymore.

According to this;

Obama has already outspent Romney by a large margin.

Of course Obama has out-raised Romney so far. There has never been any uncertainty about whether he would be the Democratic nominee. Until last month, Romney was opposed in the Republican primary and there was uncertainty about whether he would be the nominee.

For the big donors, they see their political donations as investments. They are reluctant to take risks with their investments, and backing the eventual primary loser would be throwing money away.

It is no coincidence that Romney had his best month of fundraising last month- the month that Santorum and Gingrich conceded the nomination to him.

Romney is going to close the gap. Not that Obama will hurt for money either- he remains a formidable fund raiser. Both candidates will do their best to buy the country.

However, there is a little bit of difference between the two when it comes to whether the money buys the candidate. Certainly Obama gets support from corporate interests. But what to what is how much of each candidates' campaign money comes from small donors (whose money does not buy influence) to how much comes from big donors (which buys interest). A very impressive proportion of Obama's huge campaign war chest comes from small donors. Just about all of Romney's money comes from big donors.

Money and "anti union" rhetoric might be muddying the waters for now,

Scott Walker Survives Recall, But Investigations May Zero In On Him - The Daily Beast

This reaches from campaigners up to the Wisconsin head of the RNC. Its only a matter of time before enough people choose immunity over long prison terms.

Then there's that little detail about Walker lying to Congress..

Walker wasn't recalled because he isn't facing charges. Yet.

Then there are those crimes Romney should have been charged for:

The National Memo » Did Young Mitt Romney Impersonate A Police Officer? Another Witness Says Yes

Quote:
Said Madden in a recent interview, “He told us that he had gotten the uniform from his father,” George Romney, then the Governor of Michigan, whose security detail was staffed by uniformed troopers. “He told us that he was using it to pull over drivers on the road. He also had a red flashing light that he would attach to the top of his white Rambler.”
Conservatives are trying to play this off as another "prank". He's coming off as a sociopath, and I do really wonder about what he did after he pulled people over.

Your inability to read strikes again.

Quote:
When Mitt Romney was a college freshman, he told fellow residents of his Stanford University dormitory that he sometimes disguised himself as a police officer – a crime in many states, including Michigan and California, where he then lived. And he had the uniform on display as proof.
Quote:
Said Madden in a recent interview, “He told us that he had gotten the uniform from his father,” George Romney, then the Governor of Michigan, whose security detail was staffed by uniformed troopers. “He told us that he was using it to pull over drivers on the road. He also had a red flashing light that he would attach to the top of his white Rambler.

In Madden’s recollection, confirmed by his wife Susan, who also attended Stanford during those years, “we thought it was all pretty weird. We all thought, ‘Wow, that’s pretty creepy.’ And after that, we didn’t have much interaction with him,” although both Madden and Romney were prep school boys living in the same dorm, called Rinconada.

Other eyewitnesses have previously recalled Romney’s alleged use of a police or trooper uniform in pranks during his high school years at the exclusive Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Phillip Maxwell, a prep school buddy, told the New Republic in 2008 that Romney had pulled over students from a girls school next door to Cranbrook while wearing a police uniform as a prank. Other former classmates described Mitt as a “happy-go-lucky guy known less for his achievements and more for his pranks.”
Quote:
While he may have believed that his cop antics were harmless, Romney may well have been breaking the law merely by donning a police uniform, committing a crime if he pretended to be a cop and a felony if he did so more than once. In both California and Michigan, any person convicted of fraudulently impersonating a police officer may be sentenced to up to one year in prison.
But obviously that's totally the same as a kid wearing a fake cop uniform for Halloween.

Don't get me wrong, it's the least of my worries of a Romney Presidency, but it's just further confirmation of what a vapid asshole he really is. And your casual disregard for douchebag AND illegal behavior says something about you too.

Actually, the growing evidence of what a sociopath Romney is has become one of my primary concerns about him.

Well, true. As further evidence of his douchebag, sociopathy, it is very concerning. But as an individual thing, it's not nearly as bad as the policy he would lay down as the President with the current GOP.

Much of life is perspective.
There are many circles in which you would be seen as being dumber than a box of rocks, but that alone would not make it true.

Any group that would consider my behavior on this forum as indicative of my being anywhere close to stupid, much less "dumber than a box of rocks" should look in a fucking mirror.

Also, anyone who doesn't consider Romney's behavior to be indicative of sociopathic tendencies has no room to talk about MY intelligence. Thanks for the troll though.
