Homeland Security ask Mozilla to Pull “Domain Seizure” Add-On, Mozilla: show C.O.

Homeland Security wants Mozilla to Pull “Domain Seizure” Add-On.

Mozilla replied with an E-mail asking for Court Rulings or DMCA's.

They haven't heard back from the Department of Homeland Security nor have they taken down the “MAFIAA Fire” ADD-ON that redirects seized domains to alternate sites.

for Mozilla

The battle for the internet is just getting started

"The add-on maintains a list of all the domains that ICE (hence the antidote, ‘fire’) has seized and redirects their users to an alternative domain if the sites in question have set one up. The developers told TorrentFreak that they coded it to demonstrate the futility of the domain seizures, which they find objectionable."

The Feds just declared war on the internet. This will not end well.

Homeland is part of the government and corporations (such as the RIAA) have their fists so far up the government's ass they're working it like a puppet.

Hope that helps.

Is this supposed to be questioning the fact that ICE is routinely involved in seizing domains?

Hate to break it to you, they are.

ICE seizes 82 website domains involved in selling counterfeit goods as part of Cyber Monday crackdown

Consider the URL of that press release.

My mistake. I followed links from the quoted article, and links from links, and found nothing but blogs and file sharing sites, and dismissed the whole thing.

why is it under DHS?

simple... DHS has be gobbling up other agencies left and right in a power play to give them more authority and weight to throw around...

supposedly the idea is that it'll promote inter-agency information sharing, but the net effect has been that the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing, and DHS gives a big fuck you to anyone that wants information from them, but demands it from everyone else.

They are also very aware of the historical implications of their name and like to play up the secret police image.

One of the blogs to which it links purports to be by Harvey Anderson, so if it's a hoax, it's a pretty thorough one.

The first time I heard Bush say "Homeland" I shuddered because it is way to similar to "Fatherland".

Well, there is more important stuff to care about than that.

Some people are rumoring that in the quiet an internet kill switch is being crafted right now.

How? Ever heared about the company MarkMonitor Inc.? No? Well... this company is running many well known popular domain names for their customers, like Google.com (as if Google does not have own expertise enough to run that on their own), yahoo.com, facebook.com, gmail.com, hotmail.com and many, many others.

So what if that company would really belong to an agency of the US government? Well... guess you see the point from there.

More to read about that here: #3867284 - Pastie

Dunno what to think about that - yet.

Also running a whois with Verisign's server, I didn't see anything about "MarkMonitor Inc" in Google or Facebook's domain.

Does look like someone managed to figure out a way to inject shit into Verisign's whois for Google, though.

Haha, banning the watching of advertisements from unauthorized sources. I'm not sure how that is benificial.
