The machine behind the brand ruined any respect his work might have garnered or deserved, imho. sorry if you feel different. |

My Mood: | He was a talented artisan and it's sad that he died so young, but an artist he was not. Eh, sure, his work was pretty, but I have trouble finding artistic value in something like this...

| I had to look him up. Pretty pictures. The one attached above would make a lovely christmas card. Would I put it on my wall? Definitely not. Would my mom? Probably. XD He painted what some people wanted. No harm in that. As for the above mentioned scam I can't comment, never heard of it. |

My mother had a velvet painter of a bullfighter when I was little and I would marvel at that thing and imagine myself being "So talented" one day. I object to the "Beanie baby-ization" of it, the strong arm sales tactic and bullying that went along with his brand. A LOT of people were ripped off and LOT of salespeople were treated like crap and bullied in a LOT of his galleries. It was big news in my area of Florida for a while. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...toryId=5738217 Quote:

When you read Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings', the author creates an entire world in your head. There are entire music genres dedicated to themes such as rebellion, moodiness, religiosity and so on. Munch's "The Scream" is visualized desperation, Picasso painted war and destruction in "Guernica". Heck, even a child drawing stick figures of mommy and daddy can convey its love for its parents and I wouldn't dare to throw such a picture in the garbage can, no matter how crudely it was made. So what's the story behind houses in forests, with light pouring out of their windows? There's no attempt of communication in Kinkade's works, most of the time, there aren't even humans in them. At best he tries to twang some patriotic or nostalgic strings within us, stuff that's already in our minds, but he doesn't actually offer any new emotional input, there's absolutely no emotional investment from the 'artist's' side. I browsed his online gallery, looking for some portraits, hoping to find at least some human element hidden between his depictions of buildings and other structures, but all humans are either too far away to see details of their faces or are looking away. The single picture offering a frontal view of an actual face that I could find was a horrid portrait of Jesus, with his eyes washed out and the mouth sealed shut, like those faceless men from "The X-Files". So, no - it's not art. Last edited by detrius; 04-10-2012 at 11:50 AM.

![]() If I thought he cared, that is. I don't think art has to have deeper meaning though. Sometimes it's ok to just be kitsch. Provided that the buyer knows the difference.

Business: Culprit Client: LL beta | tell me theres no beauty in this somewhere.. and i shall call you a liar.. ![]() the point of art is to evoke emotion or reaction.. i say that guy who died is evoking something in you .. so therefor it must be art... at least to you... i dont know anything about the scam behind the guy... or the guy in front of the alleged scam.. nor the art.. but everything is art to someone, somewhere. |
