Well, time for

I hope I find out what my motivations are by tomorrow, it's be bugging me for days now, not knowing why I do things and those who do know, refusing to tell me!

Sims anyone?

Simplification of the obvious inbound:

These "Oxford linked" individuals are either:

1. Lying about their position on the stance.
-OR-
2. Terrible at debating.

And with this summary, my post count increments!

you forgot

3. Misrepresented

reasoning: Ethics papers take a base position and build from it logically, regardless if that path leads to an outcome they expect or support personally. Even the base position may be on they don't support personally.. They are, in effect, statements of "we followed Y road and ended up in X location". and that is why Oxford inherently supports the papers... not because they like the conclusions but because the methodology is sound, the results are repeatable, and it's something that needs to be said an heard, if only to point out that there needs to be another consideration to NOT arrive at the same place.

Normally I'd agree with you on this, a person whose sole intention is to enrage other people isn't worth paying attention to.

The crux is that during Perph's career on this forum, all (s)he did was to repeat common right-wing talking points. So no matter if you think (s)he was an act or genuine about his/her beliefs, the fact remains that there are millions of people to whom these ideas seem appealing. And the Republican primaries are testimony to the fact that these people wield real political power, which brings up the question:

Do you really want to have to figure out what makes the far-right tick in a crash course on the day they get elected and you can't ignore them any longer because their ideology affects your RL... or would you prefer to examine their mindset when you can still do so in your spare time and in the consequence-free environment of an internet discussion forum?
